Objective: Sleep deprivation affects an individual’s emotional, cognitive, and psychological well-being,and people with hearing loss inevitably face sleep problems that can affect their well-being.Short meditations have been shown to have positive potential for sleep intervention for hearing people, and it is also very interesting to explore the direction of sleep intervention for hearing people through short meditations to enhance the level of positive thoughts.Based on this, this paper aims to further enrich the research base in the field of sleep for the hearing impaired through three studies to improve the sleep problems of the hearing impaired to enhance their well-being.Methods:This paper includes three aspects:(1)Study 1: 130 hearing impaired persons and 149 hearing-normal persons who met the inclusion criteria were recruited to explore the mechanisms underlying the relationship between inner peace, sleep quality, and subjective well-being and how this relationship differed between the two groups, using a questionnaire.(2)Study 2: to test the effectiveness of the sign language version of this short meditation training developed in this paper(35hearing impaired and 32 hearing-normal);(3)Study 3: 37 hearing impaired people(20 in the experimental group and 17 in the control group)were recruited to explore whether the sign language version of the short meditation training could improve the sleep quality of hearing-impaired people and increase their subjective well-being.Results:(1)Study 1: hearing impaired people had lower levels of inner peace, significantly higher positive and negative factor scores,non-significant differences in total subjective well-being scores, significantly longer sleep duration than hearing-normal people, significantly higher sleep efficiency than hearing-normal people, significantly higher scores on subjective sleep quality, time to sleep, sleep disturbance, and use of hypnotic drugs compared to hearing-normal people, and no significant differences in total sleep scores between the two groups.Sleep quality partially mediated the relationship between inner peace and subjective well-being;higher levels of inner peace were associated with higher subjective well-being in hearing-normal listeners, but this predictive effect was insignificant in hearing-impaired individuals.(2)Study 2: The sign language version of the short meditation training significantly improved the level of positive thoughts of the hearing impaired, and the audio version of the short meditation training significantly improved the level of positive thoughts of the hearing impaired, and the sign language version of the short meditation training had the same intervention effect as the audio version of the short meditation training.(3)Study 3: In the longitudinal intervention study, the sign language version of the short meditation training significantly improved the sleep quality of the hearing impaired by increasing sleep efficiency and reducing sleep disturbance problems, thus improving their sense of well-being.Conclusions: There is a common psychological mechanism between the inner peace and subjective well-being of hearing-impaired and hearing-normal college students, and short meditation training can also improve the sleep quality and further increase the level of well-being of hearing-impaired students. This suggests that more attention should be paid to other factors affecting the subjective well-being of hearing-impaired college students in addition to their sleep quality. |
