Interdisciplinary learning is one of the important directions advocated by the current curriculum reform, and STEM education is an important means and vehicle to achieve its goals.Based on the STEAM pyramid framework proposed by American scholar G.Yakman, this study compares the STEM education knowledge, layout and presentation in the six grades of the textbook Science published by Hebei People’s Publishing House(hereinafter referred to as [Jiren Edition])and the primary science textbook Science Enlightenment published by Macmillan(hereinafter referred to as [Macmillan Edition]).A qualitative and quantitative comparative study of the distribution of STEM educational knowledge, presentation and The study is based on the findings and recommendations of the comparison, the requirements of the 2017 edition of the primary school science curriculum, the "5E teaching model",the "multiple intelligence theory" and the "nearest developmental zone theory".In this study,an innovative teaching case study was developed and practiced for the lesson of "Creative Car Model Competition" in the first book of Grade 6 of the 2017 [Jiren Version],so as to realize the simultaneous promotion of the use of the 2017 edition of primary school science textbooks and teaching research. This study uses the literature analysis method to sort out and summarise the relevant literature,to explain the background of this study and to identify the research topic, methodology, tools and ideas, and to discuss the "connotation of STEM education","STEM quality","characteristics of STEM education" and "STEM education".It defines the concepts of "STEM education connotation","STEM quality","STEM education characteristics" and"textbook analysis";analyses the "5E teaching model","multiple intelligence theory" and"nearest developmental zone"."It also analyses the role of the 5E model of education, the Multiple Intelligences Theory and the NDA Theory in guiding the development of teaching cases, and uses them as a basis for the design of case studies.Based on the STEAM pyramid framework and core concepts proposed by American scholar G.Yakman,a comparative analysis of the content selection, layout and presentation of STEM education related to grade 6 of primary school science textbooks in China and the United States was conducted.(1)Content selection. Both editions conform to the STEAM Pyramid framework. In terms of knowledge content, the [Mac Version] textbook has a greater breadth of knowledge,is more difficult and has a more pronounced spiral of core concepts;in terms of domain distribution, the [Jiren Version] is more in line with the requirements of the 2017 edition of the Primary Science Curriculum in China. It pays more attention to the penetration of the "technology and engineering" domain, and the content is moderately difficult and more relevant to students’ reality.(2)Formatting.The [Mac Version] textbook has a richer and more varied set of sections, and its inherent progression makes it objectively more useful for teaching and learning in the context of STEM education. The structure of certain topics in [Jiren Edition] is more in line with the STEM learning needs of Grade 6 students.(3)Presentation.In terms of language expression, the [Jiren Version] mostly uses dialogues or cartoon characters, and mostly uses the first person, which can better mobilise students’ interest and curiosity in knowledge and is conducive to the achievement of STEM education objectives.Mike’s version] has processed the text, using different colours and fonts to highlight the key learning points. In terms of illustrations, the [Mac Version] textbook has a larger number of graphs and charts than the [Jiren Version],which can better develop students’ mathematical literacy. The largest proportion of physical illustrations are related to engineering production, and the large size and clarity of the pictures facilitate students’ observation.Based on this conclusion and its recommendations,as well as the theoretical basis of this study on the design model of case study curriculum teaching and the relevant requirements of the 2017 edition of the primary school science curriculum standards, the case study method and experimental research method were used to develop innovative teaching cases and teaching practice research on the lesson of "Creative Car Model Competition" in Grade 6 of[Jiren Version],and the use of The study found that: the experimental class was able to develop and evaluate the results of the STEM class by using the SPSS 19.0 software. The study found that the experimental class had a better implementation of the four dimensions of STEM education than the control class, and the students in the experimental class had a better overall mastery of the "Creative Car Competition" lesson than the control class.Based on the findings of the case study, the following strategies are proposed to further improve the case study:(1)consolidate the foundation of scientific principles to enhance the rationality of the design;(2)use the iterative thinking method to break through the difficulty of power matching;(3)grasp the core aspects of design to optimise the overall function of the project;(4)focus on the use of mathematical rational tools to accurately produce scientific assessment.
