Since the reform and opening up,China has set off a wave of farmers working in cities, and many children become migrant children with their parents.Due to the great pressure of urban life in the inflow area and the lagging reform of education policy, more and more migrant groups choose to send their children back to their hometown for school, which leads to the emergence of rural returnee children. This group returns from the city to the countryside and faces the overall change of living environment, which will inevitably lead to the problem of social adaptation. This study takes Xiaolin,a returning child in village X of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan province,as the service object of the case work. The case owner Xiaolin came to Shenzhen with his parents to study and live since childhood, and then moved back to village X due to educational policies.Due to environmental changes and cultural differences,Xiaolin showed different adaptation problems in the three dimensions of social and cultural adaptation, psychological adaptation and interpersonal adaptation.Based on the life model, this study uses case intervention to enhance the social adaptability of the case owner Xiao Lin and improve its adaptability to the environmental resources of his hometown.Firstly, this study collects the causes and manifestations of Xiao Lin’s social adjustment through participatory observation and semi-structured interview, and analyzes the irresolvable pressure caused by environmental and cultural differences, broken interpersonal relationships, lack of resource system and insufficient coping ability, which leads to the problem of local social adaptation.Secondly, combined with the social work practice principle and intervention path of life model, carry out the problem focus, needs assessment and scheme design of the case owner Xiao Lin,carry out services to the case owner from the aspects of family support system, living environment adaptation, school learning adaptation, psychological adaptation and peer relationship adaptation, and evaluate the service effect. Finally,it summarizes and reflects on the theoretical and cultural fit of life model, the role of social workers in life model and social work ethics. The case study is based on the application of life model to the social adaptation of rural returning children. The practice focuses on exploiting individual power to realize the self-empowerment of the client and giving play to the self-determination and subjective initiative to realize the readjustment of the individual and the environment. This study found that the case work involved in the social adaptation of rural returning children under the life mode is practical and effective.Through case service,Xiao Lin improved her independent decision-making ability and self-efficacy,reconstructed her hometown peer group network, enhanced his initiative to explore and link environmental resources, reduced the pressure and resistance from environmental transformation, and finally realized the connection and re-adaptation between herself and her hometown environment.
