Casting a firm sense of Chinese national community is an innovative move with Chinese characteristics to solve the ethnic question,proposed by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core.It is the key to safeguarding the unity of the motherland and national unity,and is also an inherent requirement for realising the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation.Because of their ideological attributes,junior high school textbooks on Ethics and the Rule of Law are not only an important resource for teachers to teach and students to learn,but also an important vehicle for laying a firm ideological foundation for the Chinese nation’s sense of community.Based on this,analysing the content of the common consciousness of the Chinese nation in junior high school Morality and the Rule of Law textbooks is of great value for teachers to carry out and deepen education on the sense of community of the Chinese nation in a scientific and effective manner.This study uses a combination of literature and content analysis methods to construct a framework for analysing the content of Chinese national community consciousness based on relevant theories and studies.The content of Chinese national community consciousness is divided into five main categories: identification with the Great Motherland,the Chinese nation,Chinese culture,the Communist Party of China and socialism with Chinese characteristics,and further refined into 13 sub-categories,including national consciousness and national history.With the help of this framework,a study was conducted on the presentation of the content of the Ministry’s edition of the junior high school textbook Morality and the Rule of Law,which embodies the sense of community of the Chinese nation.Interviews were also conducted to gain a preliminary understanding of teachers’ perceptions of the content and the application of the presentation of Chinese national community consciousness in the textbooks.The study found that the content presentation features of the Ministry’s version of Morality and the Rule of Law textbooks that embody a sense of Chinese community include three aspects: more emphasis is placed on a sense of Chinese community and the implementation of the requirements of moral education;the content is rich but focuses on identification with Chinese culture and the great motherland;and it is based on real life and guides individuals in the construction of a sense of Chinese community.The presentation is characterised by two aspects: the layout presents grade level differences and is in line with the laws of learning;and the problematic activities of the student body point to the value of the column.At the same time,this study also found the following problems in teachers’ understanding and use of this content: incomplete knowledge of Chinese national community consciousness;inadequate exploration of content;single teaching methods;and lack of practicality in teaching.In view of this,this study proposes recommendations for the use of the relevant content: based on textbooks,expand the knowledge related to the consciousness of the Chinese nation community;fit in with students’ reality and strengthen the consciousness of the Chinese nation community in practice;supplement teaching materials and pay attention to the dynamic balance of the content of the consciousness of the Chinese nation;Flexible selection of teaching methods lends itself to optimising the presentation of the content on Chinese national community consciousness.
