Possibility Of A Better Public Life

The definition of a good life vary from person to person,but a good public life is shared and built by all the participants.Guided by Hartmut Rosa ’s theory,this study focuses on the basic unit of social life-community public life,selects Shanghai Xinhua Community and the social organization Big Fish as the research target,and combines in-depth interviews,participatory observation,text analysis research methods to understand the experience of residents,merchants,community builder,government officer and other professionals in the public life of Xinhua community.Analyze and summarize how multi-subjects can jointly improve the quality of local life through community development practices.Under the social background of modern information technology expansion,global public risk and uncertainty spread,the public life of urban communities is declining.The social acceleration causes nearby is widely ignored.In fact,citizens still have the yearning and demand for community,especially when public emergencies come,the neighborhood is often the last fortress.Modern community public life is still the origin and foothold of people ’s good life.Referring to the practice of Xinhua community,good public life need multi-subjects to develop and it should be based on the good use of modern technology.Community development provides an effective supplement to the traditional top-down community governance.The community builder leads people who live or care about the Xinhua community to take many effective actions about community development,including Place Making,Neighbor Organizing,Field Construction and so on.Therefore,the Xinhua community has became more tidy,friendly,and gradually have the ability to respond to personalized and differentiated livelihood needs;Also,the local people gain the common memory and identity,and strengthen their sense of trust and acquisition in community life.Good public life not only aims to achieve urbanization and modernization within the community,but also to achieve citizen ’s urbanization.The autonomy from local people and the social relations between individuals that have resonance are the core and driving force of here.Xinhua ’s community development practice focuses on providing equal opportunities for dialogue among multi-subjects.Whether men and women,young and old,tenants or owners,residents or merchants,they all have the opportunity to express their opinions and exert their abilities,from bystanders to co-builders and even innovators.Then through a series of public events guide people to self-organization.From the time of fighting against the COVID-19 to the co-creation of the Xinhua Community Center,the people here have tried to be more social roles.Now,Xinhua community,which has gone through five years of community development practice,has shown a certain degree of resilience in all aspects.It is reasonable to expect that in the near future,with the assistance of modern science and technology,a good urban community public life with different boundaries but interacting with each other,integrated collaboration of online technology and offline space,and respect for personal characteristics and values will grow.At that time,the individual in community will also be a more active autonomous actor,continuously supplying sustainable endogenous development forces.
