| In 2023,China is celebrating the 45th anniversary of reform and opening up,which is also the opening year after the 20 th CPC National Congress. On the road of deepening reform, grassroots governance is constantly in people’s view, and "resolving conflicts and disputes at the grassroots" is mentioned again and again in government documents and leaders’ speeches. As China enters the transition period, community conflicts and disputes are emerging, posing challenges to grassroots community governance. However, mediation of conflicts and disputes is not an easy task, and it is difficult to bring out the real effect by relying only on the power of community workers.Nowadays, social work is playing an increasingly important role in community and grassroots governance, and the state advocates the establishment of a professional social work team in the community to work together with community workers to do a good job in grassroots community governance and face the difficult problem of mediating conflicts and disputes. This study observes eight urban communities and focuses on how community workers mediate conflicts and disputes.Through qualitative research methods, participant observation and semi-structured interviews are used to collect data, summarize the experiences and methods of community workers in mediating conflicts and disputes, and analyze their influencing factors, mediation effectiveness, difficulties encountered and reasons in the process of mediation. At the same time, based on the perspective of social work profession, the mediation process of community workers is analyzed in a closer way in terms of professional values and professional methods. Therefore, after the above research findings, the author explores the consistency and specificity of community workers and social work professions in mediating conflicts and disputes, and proposes how to help community workers better mediate conflicts and disputes with the synergy of social work professions, with a view to contributing to grassroots community governance. |
