Objective: To investigate the intervention effect of Pilates exercise on female college students with upper cross syndrome. Methods: This study recruited 59 female college students with upper cross syndrome as subjects from Guangxi Normal University. The average age of subjects was21.66 ±2.38 years old. These subjects were randomly divided into conventional exercise therapy group(n=29)and Pilates group(n=30).To investigate the effect of different exercise interventions on upper cross syndrome, the subjects in both groups received exercise intervention three times a week for six weeks at the same time.We measured Visual Analog Scores(VAS),Cervical Joint Range of Motion(CROM),neck muscle strength,Neck Dysfunction Index(NDI),Vital Capacity(VC),Forward Head Angle(FHA),Forward Shoulder Angle(FSA)and Head forward distance before and after 6-week exercise intervention.Results:(1)There was no significant difference in baseline indexes between the two groups(P(29)0.05).(2)Compared with before the experiment, the VAS of two groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),and the Pilates group was significantly lower than the conventional exercise therapy group(2.43±1.61 vs 1.57 ± 0.96,P<0.05).(3)Compared with before the experiment, the CROM of two groups were significantly increased(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in CORM when compared to the two groups(P>0.05),flexion rom(53.66±7.70° vs 53.40 ± 5.65°),extension rom(44.90±5.19° vs 45.33 ± 3.38°),left rotation rom(65.31 ±5.74° vs 65.83 ± 5.99°),right rotation rom(67.97±2.93° vs 67.87 ± 4.26°),left side flexion rom(41.41±7.41° vs 42.00 ±6.65°),right side flexion rom(42.17±8.21° vs 43.63 ± 5.48°).(4)Compared with before the experiment, the neck muscle strength of two groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the Pilates group was significantly higher than the conventional exercise therapy group(P<0.05),flexion rom(4.81±1.53 lb vs 5.87±1.18lb),extension rom(8.39±2.12 lb vs 9.82±2.03lb),left side flexion rom(6.12±1.78 lb vs 7.90±2.58lb),right side flexion rom(6.97±2.41 lb vs8.73±2.17lb).(5)Compared with before the experiment, the NDI of two groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),and the Pilates group was significantly lower than the conventional exercise therapy group(0.12±0.06 vs 0.08 ± 0.06,P<0.05).(6)Compared with before the experiment, the VC of two groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the Pilates group was significantly higher than the conventional exercise therapy group(3359.90 ml ±493.47 vs 3699.77 ±490.90 ml,P(27)0.05).(7)Compared with before the experiment, the FHA,FSA and head forward distance of two groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),and the Pilates group was significantly lower than the conventional exercise therapy group(P<0.05),FHA(35.07 ±6.67°vs 30.37 ± 6.90°),FSA(29.17 ±7.55°vs 24.67 ± 7.65°),head forward distance(3.18±1.10 cm vs 2.44 ± 0.93cm).Conclusion: Pilates exercise can relieve shoulder and neck pain, improve neck dysfunction, correct abnormal posture, increase neck muscle strength and neck muscle strength.Compared with conventional exercise therapy,Pilates exercise has better effect on female college students with upper cross syndrome.
