The "Curriculum Standards of Information Science and Technology for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)" emphasizes that information science and technology courses should highlight students’ dominant position and improve students’ learning engagement.However,in the current teaching of information science and technology,the traditional teaching mode dominated by teaching is still dominant.Teaching tends to be mechanized,and students’ low interest in learning and enthusiasm in learning have affected the participation of information science and technology class.The main concept of the BOPPPS teaching model is to carry out classroom teaching with students as the center,advocating participatory learning with teacher-student interaction,which can effectively improve students’ classroom engagement and meet the requirements of the new curriculum standards.Therefore,this study applies the BOPPPS teaching model to primary school information science and technology teaching for experimental research,in order to enhance the participation of primary school information science and technology classrooms.This study uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods,through questionnaire survey,interview,classroom observation method to understand the current situation of elementary school students’ information science and technology classroom engagement,and analyzes the existing problems.In view of the problems found,based on the traditional BOPPPS teaching model combined with the concept of project-based learning,the BOPPPS teaching model is designed to improve the classroom engagement of primary school students.Based on the teaching model,the teaching design is carried out,and the teaching model is put into practice,and the effectiveness of this teaching model to improve pupils’ engagement in information science and technology class is analyzed and studied.By comparing students’ classroom engagement before and after the implementation,the following conclusions are drawn:The application of BOPPPS teaching model can effectively improve pupils’ engagement in information science and technology classroom.In terms of behavioral participation,students’ learning initiative and self-control increased significantly,their study degree improved,and their learning time investment increased.In terms of cognitive participation,students’ deep cognitive participation increases and their dependence on peers and teachers decreases.In terms of emotional participation,students can get a sense of fun and achievement in information science and technology class,and their anxiety and boredom are reduced.Finally,the shortcomings of this study were identified and future research directions were prospected.
