Adolescence is a critical period for a person’s physical and mental development, improvement of exercise ability, and cultivation of physical exercise habits.Effective behavioral intervention during this stage can have a profound impact on promoting their physical and mental health and cultivating good physical exercise habits. The national rate of excellent physical health among students in 2019 was 23.8%,with varying degrees of increase compared to various indicators in 2014.This trend is most evident among junior high school students who have included sports in the middle school entrance examination. However,it cannot be denied that there is still a certain gap in the physical fitness of Chinese teenagers compared to those of developed countries. This study summarizes relevant papers on the cultivation of physical exercise habits among adolescents, and compiles and draws on relevant survey questionnaires. After expert evaluation and guidance from mentors, eight conditional variables with high scores and strong representativeness were selected, namely exercise identification, subjective exercise experience, parental autonomy support, parental exercise habits, school interpersonal curriculum support, school conditional opportunity support, social support, and government policy support. The resulting variable was adolescent physical exercise habits. With the help of clear set qualitative comparative analysis(cs QCA)software, anchor point calibration, variable assignment, single factor necessity analysis, truth table construction, robustness test and path analysis are carried out for variable data.Determine the core and marginal conditions that affect the formation or non formation of adolescent physical exercise habits, and analyze the 7 successful paths and 6 failed paths that affect the formation of adolescent physical exercise habits based on case studies.Research results:(1)In the study of adolescents with good physical exercise habits, there is no single factor necessity condition for each conditional variable as the outcome variable. The formation of teenagers’ physical exercise habits is not influenced by a specific factor, but is formed by the joint action of multiple conditional variables;(2)In the study of adolescents who have not formed good exercise habits,"subjective exercise experience" exists in all failure paths, indicating that this conditional variable is the core condition for adolescents who have not formed physical exercise habits. Before taking measures for adolescents who have not formed physical exercise habits, this conditional variable should be included as the main reference factor;(3)The success paths A1 and A5 of this study have the highest coverage rate and significant consistency compared to other paths in the data cases. As successful cases of teenagers developing good physical exercise habits, teenagers who form physical exercise habits under these two paths have higher stability and can be used as the optimal path for teenagers to develop physical exercise habits;(4)There are 6 configuration paths that lead to the failure of adolescents to form physical exercise habits in this study, among which B5 and B6 are more meaningful for research compared to other paths. In this failure path, school conditional opportunity support, social support, and government policy support all appear as marginal conditions, indicating that these three conditional variables have a relatively weak impact on the formation of adolescents’ physical exercise habits. This article proposes the following three implementation paths based on the above results and the reality of the formation of physical exercise habits among young people: firstly, attention should be paid to the subjective exercise experience of young people in participating in physical exercise, and on this basis, gradually cultivate their physical exercise habits;Secondly, families and schools are the most directly affected places for teenagers to cultivate their physical exercise habits, and all parties should focus on the coordination between home and school; The third is to build a sports lifestyle that is interconnected between home and abroad, during and after class, and on campus and off campus,so that teenagers can participate in physical exercise anytime and anywhere, forming stable and lasting exercise habits.
