Abstract/Summary:
The "Physical Education and Health Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)" issued by the Ministry of Education suggests that physical education classes should focus on developing students’ physical literacy, reflecting the development of proper values, essential character and key competencies."FIFA 11 for Health" is a football-based health education program for youth, which aims to encourage youth to be physically active and promote health literacy. The study focuses on the existing problems and causes of physical literacy development in eighth grade, optimizes the structure and content of "FIFA 11 for Health",and investigates the impact of "FIFA 11 for Health" on the physical literacy of eighth grade students. The study was conducted to investigate the impact of "FIFA 11 for Health" on students’ physical literacy. Methods: Based on the experimental method,94 students in two classes of the eighth grade of the No.19 middle school in Tangshan City,Hebei Province, were selected for 11 weeks with two sessions per week, and the experimental group(n=47)was teaching by "FIFA 11 for Health" while the control group(n=47)was teaching by the traditional method. The students in both groups were tested on their physical literacy. Results: In the physical ability dimension, the experimental group’s 50-meter run(8.30±0.71)was significantly faster than the control group(8.68±0.91)(P<0.05).The experimental group’s average scores in sitting forward bend, standing long jump,pull-up and sit-up were similar to those of the control group(P>0.05);in the soccer technique scores, the experimental group’s round-trip dribbling In the soccer technique performance, the difference between the experimental group’s round-trip dribbling(4.35±1.06)and the control group’s(3.69±0.88)was very significant(P<0.01),the difference between the experimental group’s kicking accuracy(5.63±1.02)and the control group’s(4.11±1.14)was very significant(P<0.01),and the two groups were similar in the ball sense index performance(P>0.05);in the game performance performance, the experimental group’s overall game performance(66.56 ± 11.49)differed significantly(P<0.05)from the control group(59.73±13.01),as well as the experimental group differed significantly(P<0.05)from the control group in decision making and support assistance, and both groups of students were more similar in skill play and rule performance(P>0.05).On the health behavior dimension, the experimental group had highly significant differences(P<0.01)in the scores of physical exercise awareness formation, physical exercise habit formation, health knowledge acquisition and application, emotional control, and environmental adaptation compared with the control group. On the dimension of sports morality, the experimental group had highly significant differences in the scores of sports spirit, sports character, and sports morality compared with the control group(P<0.01).After the experiment, between the dimensions of physical literacy in the experimental group, there was a significant correlation(r=0.630,r=0.529,r=0.628).Conclusion: To a certain extent,"FIFA 11 for Health" is more effective than traditional teaching in improving some of the indicators of motor ability dimension, health behavior dimension and physical moral dimension of eighth grade students, and to a certain extent,it is more conducive to improving students’ physical literacy, and the correlations between the dimensions of physical education core literacy are high and affect each other. In addition,we should make full use of the high correlation between the dimensions of physical literacy in teaching to improve the teaching effect.
