Since the 21 st century,with the increase of divorce rate in China,the psychological problems of children from divorced families have received widespread attention.According to research,children from divorced families have prominent low self-esteem problems,and school age is the critical period for the development of self-esteem.In existing intervention practices on low self-esteem,insufficient attention has been paid to children from divorced families,especially school-age children from divorced families.Narrative therapy,as an emerging psychotherapy method,has been applied more and more in schools,hospitals and sudden disasters,and has shown some applicability in the practices of improving low self-esteem.This study focuses on the low self-esteem of school-age children from divorced families.With the case study as basic research method and narrative therapy as the intervention technique,this paper studies a typical case based on the two-factor theory of self-esteem,cognitive development theory and narrative theory,aiming to help the case subject build a positive attitude,enrich the connotation of narrative theory,and explore the practice path of narrative therapy in the issue of low self-esteem of school-age children from divorced families.During the intervention process,the author followed narrative therapy steps such as externalizing problems,reconstructing new life stories and consolidating new life stories,and used narrative therapy techniques such as naming for problems,discovering exceptional stories,renaming for problems,inviting important people to witness and handing over narratives,to guide the case subject to narrate from focused elaboration to multiple description,alleviate her negative relationship experience with her mother and enrich positive stories in other social relationships.According to the evaluation results of scale measurement and interviews of important people,the intervention achieved good results,the case subject’s low self-esteem was improved,and a positive life attitude and behavior orientation were developed.Regarding the application of narrative therapy in intervening low self-esteem of schoolage children from divorced families,this paper draws the following conclusions: 1.The dualsubject orientation of narrative therapy is conducive to the establishment of equal and sincere relationships.2.The flexible and diverse expressive mode is conducive to the formation of harmonious and efficient communication.3.The intervention technique of concept projection is beneficial to explore children’s expression potentiality.4.The exploration of exceptional stories is beneficial to avoid secondary damage and promote the positive transformation of children’s narrative types.This study puts forward the following suggestions on how to avoid or improve the low self-esteem of school-age children from divorced families: 1.In terms of children: Children facing divorced parents should be encouraged and guided to seek psychological support from others and to avoid negative narrative.2.In terms of family: Divorced parents should handle the divorce peacefully,understand and respond to their children’s emotional needs in a timely manner.3.In terms of school: Teachers should be trained to enhance their sensitivity to the psychological needs of school-age children from divorced families,to create a harmonious class atmosphere,and to provide children with professional psychological assistance when necessary.4.In terms of narrative therapy: When intervening school-age children from divorced family,their narrative type should be accurately grasped,and targeted intervention plans should be formulated based on their subjective narrative type and objective resource situation.5.In terms of social workers: Social workers should pay attention to the psychological issues of schoolage children from divorced families,improve service methods,and explore intervention paths.
