In recent years,revolutionary culture education has attracted much attention as an important component of elementary school language education in the new era.The unified edition of elementary school language teaching materials not only adds works on the theme of revolutionary culture with ideological and political value,historical thickness and cultural weight to the general units,but also establishes a separate unit on revolutionary culture in the middle and upper grades.This is of great significance in stimulating students’ patriotic feelings,awakening their respect for heroes,and helping them to build up their Chinese foundation in language teaching.As a teaching method,holistic teaching is particularly conducive to achieving the teaching goal of "unity of literature and morality" and "unity of knowledge and action" in the unit on revolutionary culture,facilitating the integration of textbook contents,creating rich language learning activities,and promoting students’ core language literacy.Therefore,the purpose of this study is to find out whether the teaching of the unit on revolutionary culture has achieved the expected teaching effect,what problems still exist,and how to optimize the teaching,as the overall teaching method of the unit is put into use.This study first used the questionnaire method to investigate the current situation of the overall teaching of the unit on revolutionary culture in elementary school language from three dimensions: teachers’ awareness,teachers’ teaching,and students’ learning,using middle and upper grade language teachers.The survey results show that teachers are more fully aware of the importance and specialness of revolutionary culture,teachers are more aware of the overall teaching of the unit,and are actively implementing the overall teaching of the unit in the unit of revolutionary culture,the teaching objectives and assessment design of the unit of revolutionary culture are more ideal,and the activities inside and outside school are well developed,which makes students’ participation higher and their mastery of the language elements of the unit is better,but their However,the understanding of revolutionary culture still needs to be improved.The problems with the overall teaching of the unit on revolutionary culture include teachers’ low daily attention to works related to revolutionary culture,poor overall knowledge of the unit on revolutionary culture,low utilization of skimming texts,and some problems in the design of tasks and assignments.Secondly,with the help of the internship school resources,the author used interviews and classroom observations to do further investigation,and the results of the interviews and classroom observations basically confirmed the findings of the questionnaire.Based on the problems found and in-depth analysis of the causes,the author proposes corresponding improvement countermeasures at three levels: in terms of teachers’ cognition,teachers need to strengthen their self-learning and clarify the revolutionary culture unit;in terms of teaching design,teachers need to strengthen their learning of task design theory,introduce the results of assignment design practice and design unit tiered assignments;at the level of teaching implementation,Teachers need to fully understand students’ learning situation,implement students’ main position,strengthen language to guide the teaching of revolutionary culture towards depth,create real and vivid task situations,assign interesting and diverse homework assignments as well as make full use of the value of skimming texts.
