| Since the introduction of bodybuilding in the 1920 s and 1930 s,it has continuously developed in China. From the promulgation of the "National Fitness Program Outline" by the Central Committee and the State Council in 1995 to the continuous updating and implementation of the "National Fitness Program" every five years,China’s national fitness program has entered a stage of normalized promotion and development. The development speed of bodybuilding has been further improved, and China has crossed the threshold from a bodybuilding power to a bodybuilding powerhouse in Asia. However, there is still a large gap between the development of bodybuilding in China and the international top level, and there is still much room for improvement. As an important part of bodybuilding competitions, the presentation of self-selected actions has extremely high ornamental value, and the quality of music selection plays a decisive role in the presentation of this part. This article uses methods such as literature review, video observation, comparative analysis, mathematical statistics, and expert interviews to analyze and sort out the music selection and action arrangement of the top eight players in the classical bodybuilding and traditional bodybuilding events in the 2020 and 2021 National Bodybuilding Championships. It also reviews and analyzes the relevant requirements and scoring rules of the domestic bodybuilding competition rules for self-selected actions, and statistically analyzes the current status of music selection for bodybuilding self-selected actions in China. It summarizes the characteristics of excellent bodybuilding athletes’ music selection and constructs a relevant element system for bodybuilding self-selected action music selection applications. This study provides a theoretical basis for improving the competition level of bodybuilding athletes and the overall development of bodybuilding in China. The research conclusions are as follows:(1)In the selection of music for individual posing routines, the majority of competitors(47.6%)chose vocal pop music as their genre of choice, followed by symphonic instrumental music(21.8%).Only 2 out of 128 competitors used multiple pieces of music for their routine. The selection of pop music is based on its high popularity and familiarity among the audience and judges, which can better resonate with them.(2)The themes of the chosen music are primarily majestic and grand(26.5%),lyrical and beautiful(24.2%),and strong and powerful(17.9%).The choice of majestic and grand themes aligns perfectly with the purpose of showcasing the competitors’ strong and impressive physique, creating a more impressive stage effect.Lyrical and beautiful themes are more commonly used in classical performances, accounting for 61.3% of all selections, highlighting the soft and beautiful characteristics of classical music.Strong and powerful themes mainly emphasize the sense of strength, which matches the power and strength displayed by the competitors.(3)The selection of music tempo was mostly medium, ranging from 66 to 132 beats per minute(BPM).Only a few competitors chose fast or slow music.Among the top three competitors in each group,77.1% chose medium tempo music. It is not necessarily better to choose faster music,as the faster the tempo, the shorter the pause time between each pose, requiring greater control over the competitor’s postures. The difficulty of synchronizing movements with the rhythm of the music also increases, leading to a higher risk of errors on stage.(4)The majority of music used in posing routines is in 4/4 time signature, accounting for 65%,followed by 4/2(30%)and 4/3(5%).The rhythm of 4/4 and 4/2 is relatively simple and straightforward, making the routine more manageable and easier to synchronize with the music.4/3 has a more dynamic and swing rhythm, requiring greater musical understanding and more challenging choreography.(5)The most common musical form used in posing routines is the single or two-part form, accounting for 67% of all selections. The straightforward structure and simple materials of this form are more in line with the requirements of posing routines, making it more easily accepted and resonant among the audience. The choice of single-part form(12%)has the lowest requirement for movement choreography, but the repetition of a single segment can easily cause aesthetic fatigue among the audience. The single three-part form, with ABA accounting for 14% and ABC accounting for 7%,is difficult to fit within the length of a full music piece, requiring special attention when selecting and editing music. However, the strong contrast and rich emotions of each segment can make the posing routine more layered and require a higher understanding of the music.(6)The majority of competitors ended their posing routine with a complete musical phrase or an abrupt stop.Ending with a complete musical phrase is more conducive to the overall performance, and a higher percentage(79%)of the top three competitors in each group have a consistent style between their posing and music selection.Competitors typically use the characteristics of the music to coordinate the arrangement of the musical phrases, the synchronization of movements and music tempo, and the coordination of postures and rhythm to achieve a better presentation effect. When the posing is not related to the music, and the coincidence rate of posture positioning and beat is less than 30%,the overall performance lacks cohesiveness and is not conducive to a better presentation.(7)The categories, genres, themes, tempo, beats, musical forms, and ending styles of music are the main influencing factors in music selection. The coordination between music and action choreography after selection is the main factor affecting the overall presentation effect. |
