With the release of the new 22-year curriculum,teaching in the new era should keep pace with the times.Deep learning theory and the core language literacy in the new curriculum share common goals,both aiming to enhance students’ overall literacy by developing their active learning motivation,higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.At the same time,the study of ancient poetry is equally important for primary school students to inherit traditional Chinese culture and improve their core language literacy.However,the current teaching of ancient poetry in primary schools is generally superficial,resulting in primary school students not being able to explore the texts of ancient poetry in depth and feel the unique moods and emotional inculcation of Chinese fine culture in ancient poetry.Therefore,in order to enhance students’ core literacy and develop their higher-order thinking skills,it is necessary to rely on deep learning in the teaching of ancient poetry.This paper further explores the study of strategies to improve the quality of ancient poetry classrooms under deep learning theory by linking deep learning theory to the teaching of ancient poetry in primary schools.This study uses literature,interview and case study methods to investigate the teaching of ancient poetry in the third year of primary school,and to understand the current situation of teaching ancient poetry from two perspectives: teacher interviews and cases of teaching ancient poetry.The analysis revealed the following problems in the teaching of ancient poetry in the third year of primary school: the objectives focus on knowledge attainment,but not on in-depth thinking analysis;the presentation of fragmented content,neglecting the integration with the text and students’ lives;the formalisation of cooperative learning,lacking systematic guidance;and the finalisation of assessment,neglecting students’ developmental aspects.The main reasons for these problems are: the influence of the traditional educational background;the high difficulty of teaching ancient poetry;and teachers’ lack of awareness of deep learning theory.In order to better enhance students’ core language literacy and further improve the quality of classroom teaching of ancient poetry in the third year of primary school,this study is guided by deep learning theory to propose strategies that are summarised in the following aspects:developing higher-order thinking goals based on the concept of deep learning;integrating multiple perspectives and linking teaching contents in multiple dimensions;making good use of the cooperative learning model to enhance students’ interest in learning;respecting students’ subject position and optimise the teaching evaluation system.In this way,the current situation of teaching ancient poetry in primary schools can be improved.As a component of good traditional culture,ancient poetry is important for students to inherit and pass on traditional cultural values.Through the study of ancient poetry,students can enhance their cultural confidence and carry forward the excellent qualities contained in traditional Chinese culture.Teachers should base their teaching of ancient poetry on deep learning theory,improve their teaching and ultimately enhance students’ core language literacy to facilitate the further development of deep learning of ancient poetry.
