The family planning policy has a positive effect on curbing population growth,reducing resource consumption and increasing social wealth to China and the world.At the same time,the policy of only advocating one child has had a serious impact on the parents of only child since the 1980 s.When the only child in a one-child family dies,last alone live with relatives or alone.Last alone cannot enjoy the companionship of their child without the second child or adoption,last alone are referred to as the elderly who lost their only child when they are 60 years old or above.The family structure of elderly who lost their only child changes,which leads to the change of their identity.When the role changes improperly,there will be role imbalance.Some elderly who lost their only child cannot adapt to the changed life,and they suffer from difficulties in sickness left unattended,depression,financial constraints,single social relationships,integrating into community life and other aspects.Due to Chinese unique one-child policy,the increase in the number of the elderly who lost their only child needs more attention and support from all sectors of society.The life needs and difficulties of the elderly who lost their only child cannot be ignored.Their living conditions such as mood depression,social anxiety and loneliness,seriously affect their own life quality.In this paper,literature review method and questionnaire method are used as data collection methods,the realistic needs of the elderly who lost their only child were evaluated based on the questionnaire survey.The paper uses empowerment perspective and case work,group work and community work to carry out professional social work intervention for the elderly who lost their only child,to meet the needs of the elderly who lost their only child and to improve their existing life conditions.The study found that professional social work services for the elderly who lost their only child can meet their needs of physical health care,psychology and spirit,and social relations and community integration needs to a certain extent and improve their difficulties.Finally,this paper summarizes the experience of social workers who serve the elderly who have lost their only child,and gives some suggestions.Firstly,individual and family should play their own subjective value,and try to improve their dilemma,and problem solving ability.Secondly,social worker and community should establish the document sharing mechanism,integrate community resources,strengthen policy publicity and community activities,and create the warm community environment.Thirdly,social worker promote government improve the welfare policy about the elderly who lost their only child,accelerate the process of purchasing social work services,and cooperate with social organizations to provide social services for the elderly who lost their only child.Fourthly,social worker publicizing relevant policies and entertainments of the elderly who lost their only child through media,guide the direction of public opinion and exert the social influence.Besides,social workers should be professional,and improve the quality of local service.In a word,all sectors of society should give full play to their social responsibilities and jointly commit to promote the life quality of the elderly who lost their only child.
