Self-made teaching aid usually refer to the teaching aids designed and made by teachers or students according to the needs of the actual teaching or learning situation,using the resources around them.Self-made teaching aid can help improve teachers’ teaching ability,students’ independent thinking ability,scientific inquiry ability,hands-on ability and other comprehensive abilities.The application of self-made teaching aid in the classroom improves students’ interest in learning,turns the abstract knowledge into concrete,helps students grasp and remember knowledge,makes students actively integrate into the classroom,makes the classroom atmosphere more active,and improves classroom efficiency significantly.Self-made teaching aid play an important role in high school biology teaching.It is very meaningful to understand the current situation of self-made teaching aid in high school biology teaching,to find the current problems and causes of self-made teaching aid,to study the application effect of self-made teaching aid in biology teaching,and to put forward teaching suggestions.This paper adopts the literature research method to understand the definition,characteristics,roles,principles of self-made teaching aid,the theoretical basis of research,and the current situation of domestic and foreign research by reading existing literature,so as to pave the way for its own research.The questionnaire survey method was adopted to design student questionnaires and teacher questionnaires to survey 800 students and 200 teachers in Taian City,Shangdong Province,and the survey results provided data support and targeted solution strategies for this paper.The survey results show that the education department and schools do not have a positive attitude toward self-made teaching aid,they seldom provide teachers and students with training on self-made teaching aid,the requirements for teachers to make their own teaching aids are very low,and most schools’ annual assessment rules do not cover the rules related to self-made teaching aid.Most teachers only make teaching aids in competitions such as public classes and quality classes,but they do not use them in their daily teaching.However,most teachers think that it is necessary to use self-made teaching aid in the classroom to improve teachers’ personal teaching level on the one hand,and to stimulate students’ interest in learning and improve their hands-on skills on the other.Most of the students are very happy to have their teachers apply the self-made teaching aid in the classroom in a cooperative way,but they only make the aids when they participate in competitions and complete the tasks assigned by teachers.In addition,this paper also takes a research method to select representative chapter contents,apply the self-made teaching aid in the classroom,form teaching cases,and evaluate the teaching effectiveness of self-made teaching aid.The experimental and control classes were set up in both the A and B classes to conduct a semester-long study.At the end of the study,the same test questions were used to post-test the performance of the four classes,and the data were analyzed by SPSS.It was found that students’ test scores improved in the experimental classes using self-made teaching aid,their quantitative scores on the Scientific Inquiry Ability Assessment System Scale improved,and students’ interest in learning biology increased.This shows that using self-made teaching aid to assist biology teaching has a positive impact on improving students’ performance,developing students’ scientific inquiry ability,and stimulating students’ interest in learning biology.Based on the above research,the author proposes the following suggestions for the application of self-made teaching aid in the classroom at four levels:(1)The education department can conduct appropriate training,organize teachers to observe and observe the excellent teaching aids,and hold self-made teaching aid competitions.(2)Schools can try to include content related toself-made teaching aidin their annual assessment rules,and to reduce the burden of students academically by offering elective courses on self-made teaching aid.(3)Teachers can try to use self-made teaching aid for daily teaching,assign self-made teaching aid to students after school,give timely evaluation of students’ homework,and form self-made teaching aid clubs in schools to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of self-made teaching aid.We should prepare lessons carefully,design and organize classes carefully,introduce teaching aids appropriately with the important and difficult points of knowledge,reasonably arrange the time for using and displaying teaching aids,pay attention to the guidance and inspiration of students in the classroom,and let students draw conclusions or summarize characteristics independently based on their observation and operation of teaching aids as much as possible,so that teaching aids can play the best role in the classroom.(4)Students can learn about self-made teaching aid through the Internet or books,and take the initiative to make teaching aids after class time.
