| As an important part of national education and an important supplement to the implementation of the strategy of strengthening the country with talents, continuing education in colleges and universities has actively served economic and social development with public welfare attributes and provided a large number of practical talents. The report of the 19th National Congress emphasizes that we should do a good job in continuing education and accelerate the construction of a learning society. In this context, the outward and rapid development of continuing education in colleges and universities, but at the same time, there are some problems. The supply of continuing education in colleges and universities is difficult to meet the demand for high-level and multi-level talents and the demand for diversified and high-quality education resources from members of the society, which restricts the development of continuing education in colleges and universities.Facing the current supply-side structural contradictions of college continuing education,it is especially important to actively introduce the theory of supply-side reform to improve the adaptability and flexibility of supply structure to changes in demand,so as to inject vitality into college continuing education and enhance the competitiveness of talents. In terms of the existing research on the supply side of continuing education in colleges and universities, there is still room for improvement. The existing literature on the supply-side reform of continuing education in colleges and universities is relatively small, and most of the scholars’ researches tend to focus on the supply-side reform of continuing education in colleges and universities at the macro level in China, and the case studies at the micro level are not targeted enough. In this regard,in order to make up for the lack of case studies, this paper conducts an in-depth case study on the development of continuing education in colleges and universities from the perspective of economics. As a quasi-public good, continuing education in higher education has certain market attributes and is highly similar to supply-side reform in terms of goal orientation, structural development and logical attributes. This paper introduces the theory of supply-side reform and relates it to the education issue to re-examine the current situation and problems of supply-side of college continuing education and provide a new research perspective for the reform and development of college continuing education.By selecting Jiangsu province as the case study object and using literature research method, interview method, case study method and textual analysis method, the development status of continuing education in Jiangsu universities is studied in depth. It is found that the development of college continuing education in Jiangsu province has made certain achievements, but there are still some problems: low satisfaction of students, poor effect of education, lagging level of information construction, and poor integration with market demand.Based on this, the supply-side reform theory is used as the analysis framework to analyze the causes of the problems on the supply side of college continuing education in Jiangsu Province from four perspectives, such as faculty strength, education resources, school funding and mechanism innovation, and put forward the optimization path of supply-side reform of college continuing education in a targeted way.It is to improve the quality of education as the fundamental, increase the supply of professional teachers;enhance the effectiveness of education, increase the supply of high-quality educational resources;take the road of diversified and open schooling, expand the supply channels of school funds;strengthen the fit with the market demand, and improve the mechanism innovation supply system. This study provides guidance and reference for promoting the reform and development of continuing education in colleges and universities. |
