| High school education is known as an important part of the national education system and an important link between basic education and higher education. Its teaching quality is not only related to the overall quality of the national education system, but also related to the future of every student. Therefore, improving the quality of high school education is bound to be the eternal theme of high school education management. The key to improvement lies in teachers. In recent years, with the continuous expansion of enrollment, the teaching team has also been expanding, and young teachers have increasingly become the backbone of the high school teacher team.Accordingly, fully integrating educational resources inside and outside the school and improving school supportive strategies for the professional development of young teachers is an important guarantee of promoting the sustainable development for high school teachers and continuous improvement of the quality of high school education. This paper selects the English subject in A High School as a case, comprehensively summarizing the practical exploration of the supportive strategies in A High School, including the training mode, supporting activities and external resources, which are aimed to promote the professional development of young English teachers, and objectively analyzing the role of each measure. While acknowledging the effectiveness of the school’s supportive strategy,it systematically sorts out the existing barriers that hinder teachers’ professional development in the school, using a variety of research methods such as observation method and interview method. In some senses all those issues hold back the progress and development of young teachers. For example, the relatively single learning content prevents the overall development of teachers,a lack of sharing willingness of backbone teachers weakens the joint effort of professional development,a lack of motivation of young teachers to participate in activities reduces the effectiveness of professional growth, and the failure of some mechanisms affects the implementation of supportive strategies. In view of the above problems,on teacher’s level, the study finds that the heavy workload, deficiency in growth autonomy, and insufficient self-reflection as well as self-discipline are the main reasons. On school’s level, the main reasons are improper evaluation methods, lacking comprehensive support of vocational environment, insufficient spiritual motivation, and mixed views of leaders on supportive strategies.Based on those analyses, the study proposes four school supportive strategies to promote the professional development of young teachers, that is,attaching importance to organizational construction and enhancing organizational guidance, consolidating institutional guarantees and promoting the implementation of strategies, strengthening activity support, optimizing the working condition and promoting teacher collaboration.Hope it will not only provide advice for A High School to improve its supportive strategy, but also provide reference for other high schools. |
