The increasing competition in the world has led to an increase in the requirements for talent cultivation in various countries, and innovative and comprehensive talents are the main direction of talent cultivation in the world. In this new situation, countries have started to explore the suitable education model, and STEAM education has started to enter the public’s view, which is an education model that takes practical problems as the background, interrelated subject knowledge as the teaching content, and information technology and other resources as the teaching means,so that students can form a comprehensive way of thinking, acquire problem-solving ability and innovation ability through collaborative experiments. The concept of collaborative experimentation has become an important breakthrough in education reform,in line with the current requirements for talent training in China. With the demand and emphasis on the comprehensive quality training of primary and secondary school students in China, research on STEAM education has gradually emerged in recent years. This study integrates STEAM education concept in high school mathematics teaching,so that students can further solve practical problems based on mastering knowledge in actual situations, which not only improves students’ knowledge transfer ability and comprehensive ability, but also provides teachers with a new teaching idea, and moreover helps to improve the current situation of lack of innovation and education. This study adopts the research methods of literature analysis, survey research method, interview method and data statistics method.Firstly, based on the results of literature combing, the status of domestic and international research on STEAM education was summarized and the meaning of STEAM education was further summarized.Secondly, questionnaires were distributed to the research subjects and teacher interviews were conducted to understand the current status of STEAM teaching implementation in high school mathematics,to further clarify whether the learning styles of students at the high school level can reflect the STEAM education concept, students’ willingness to integrate STEAM education with mathematics teaching, and teachers’ attitudes and opinions toward STEAM education. Then we combed through the literature related to STEAM education model, constructed a general process of applying STEAM education to high school mathematics classroom teaching, and selected appropriate teaching contents to carry out a complete teaching design and implementation according to STEAM education model. Finally, the findings of the study were integrated through a number of data such as teaching effectiveness observation forms, student questionnaires and test papers, and corresponding teaching strategies were proposed for the re-improvement of the teaching design. The conclusions obtained from this study are as follows:(1)In the current learning, students’ awareness of linking mathematics to the real world is weak and their knowledge is detached from life. They are still at the stage of learning pure mathematical knowledge, and their learning methods are biased towards receptive learning.(2)Both teachers and students have a high level of acceptance of the STEAM education concept.Teachers support the integration of STEAM education concepts into mathematics teaching and learning, emphasizing its ability to develop students’ integrative and innovative thinking, but also have some concerns that such integration places higher demands on both teachers’ teaching and students’ learning.(3)STEAM-based mathematics teaching in high school helps to achieve the teaching objectives and improve students’ performance. The student questionnaire after the implementation of the design showed that the majority of students checked the positive option of "fully agree" or "agree".The mean score was higher than that of the control class. After reflection,it was found that the teaching of mathematics based on the STEAM education concept had neglected the advantages of traditional teaching methods and students’ long-standing learning habits, which led to a single teaching method, lack of pre-designed teaching sessions, which led to a loose STEAM classroom and insufficient teaching evaluation.Accordingly, three suggestions are given: to take into account multiple teaching methods,to set up reasonable teaching sessions and to set up reasonable evaluation methods.
