The family is the initial place of socialisation of the individual and plays an important role in the physical and mental development of every individual, especially for young people whose values and outlook on life are gradually being formed. In the family,parent-child communication is a bridge for the exchange of emotions and information,an important way to realise the function of family education, and an important influencing factor in the development of individuals and families. When children enter the junior high school stage, they change physically and mentally and become more independent psychologically. When parents do not adjust their educational concepts and communication methods in a timely manner, and still use demanding and forceful ways of communication that ignore children’s feelings,parent-child conflict will arise, which in turn leads to children’s resistance to communicate with their parents and eventually affects the development of the individual child. To solve the problem of parent-child communication in families of junior high school students,it is important to improve the parent-child communication skills of parents who are the main subjects of communication.Using S community as the sample community, the current situation of parent-child communication in junior high school students’ families was investigated and analysed using questionnaire research method and interview method to understand the parent-child communication situation in junior high school students’ families and the current situation of parents’ parent-child communication ability. The survey found that parents of junior high school students have problems in parent-child communication, such as a dominant sense of authority and a lack of awareness of the importance of parent-child communication leading to communication blockage,a blurred understanding of children’s adolescence without timely adjustment of communication methods, excessive concern for children’s academics and neglect of emotional communication, and an inability to use parent-child communication skills effectively.Guided by family communication theory, this study uses group work methods to conduct six group sessions to help parents of junior high school students to improve their understanding of the importance of communication,to understand the developmental characteristics of adolescence and adjust their communication style, and to master the communication skills of respect, listening, understanding, empathy and positive response,so as to ultimately improve parent-child communication through the enhancement of parents’ parent-child communication skills. The study found that the use of communication theory to develop group social work services can effectively improve the parent-child communication skills of parents of junior high school students in urban areas. When social workers conduct parent-child communication groups, communication theory can provide a pathway for intervention. In practice, the rich service format can ensure the effectiveness of the groups, and the role of social workers as facilitators can effectively help parents to reflect and change. However, there is still room for further improvement in this group service. In the future,in the process of developing group social work services to improve the parent-child communication skills of parents of junior high school students in urban areas,a series of family education activities should be implemented in collaboration with the community to ensure the effectiveness of the service, and attention should also be paid to solving the individual problems of families. |
