Learning engagement is a key factor in measuring the effectiveness of education and an important criterion for assessing the level of school education.Exploring high school students’ learning engagement and its influencing factors is of great practical significance and policy value in promoting high-quality education.Thinking skills are crucial for understanding and innovation,especially during the important period of adolescence,which can help us better develop and enhance our thinking patterns.People with a growth mindset will face challenges more optimistically and will focus more on problem solving,leading to greater progress.This study aims to investigate the relationship between growth mindset and learning engagement of high school students and the role of future time insight.In this study,three scales,Growth Mindset Scale,Learning Engagement Scale,and Future Time Insight Scale,were developed into an anonymous questionnaire and administered to high school students in a middle school in Nanning City,and 1036 valid data were collected.The results of the study:(1)High school students’ learning engagement score was 4.08,which was higher than the average score of 4.The scores of each dimension of learning engagement were 3.78,4.38,and 4.12 in the order of vitality,dedication,and concentration.in terms of gender,male students scored significantly higher than female students in learning engagement.In terms of grade level,senior students scored significantly higher than sophomores and juniors in the learning engagement and concentration dimensions;and senior students scored significantly higher than juniors in the dedication dimension.(2)There were significant two-by-two correlations between growth mindset and future time insight and its dimensions,and learning engagement and its dimensions.(3)Growth mindset positively and directly predicted learning engagement,and indirectly predicted learning engagement through future time insight.Based on the above findings,this study proposes the following recommendations:form a joint effort to cultivate growth mindset;clarify the direction of effort to improve future time insight;pay attention to gender and grade differences to improve learning engagement. |
