In recent years, gender issues in China have attracted increasing attention, particularly concerning women’s rights and gender opposition.Within the realm of gender discourse, the language used by female stand-up comedians often stands out.sparking significant social attention. This article focuses on the performance texts of female comedians from the show"Roast" as the primary research material and applies Lucy Irigaray’s feminist power discourse theory and Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework for analyzing media discourse to examine the gender discourse of female comedians in stand-up comedy. The research reveals that female comedians in the stand-up comedy field go through three stages:"silence," "entry," and "attention,"with gender topics gradually transitioning from "private" to "public" discourse. These comedians portray themselves as "independent women," "advocates for women’s defense," "caretakers of women," and "challengers of women." From the perspective of textual practice, the study employs qualitative analysis tool NVIVO 12 to progressively code and analyze the performance texts, extracting three core themes:resistance against gender stereotypes, opposition to patriarchy, and advocacy for gender autonomy. From the perspective of discursive practice,in the process of producing gender discourse, female comedians in stand-up comedy exhibit a stronger sense of power and authenticity through their diverse, rebellious, and contradictory role positioning.Digital platforms also provide a broad space for the expression of gender discourse. However, the capital logic of the entertainment industry as applied to stand-up comedy may have negative effects on the depth and strength of gender discourse expression. In terms of the diffusion of gender discourse, female comedians in stand-up comedy blend Eastern and Western performance forms, aiming to elicit laughter and promote the spread of gender discourse. The show "Roast" invites female guests from various industries and launches derivative programs, engaging in secondary creation and dissemination of focal topics on social platforms, thereby enhancing the influence of gender discourse. In terms of gender opposition, female comedians adopt a strategy of "retreating to advance" and gain more social support through indirect resistance. From the perspective of social practice, female comedians in stand-up comedy interact with social events, and the dissemination of emerging feminism domestically provides them with a space for expression.Their educational background, family background, romantic relationships, and desire for selfexpression support their comedy creation.Lastly, the gender discourse of female comedians has a positive impact on social gender ideology, particularly in breaking traditional gender roles, resisting gender stereotypes, and emphasizing the status of women as subjects.
