General Secretary Xi Jinping has frequently emphasized the importance of "cultivating virtue and nurturing people" during significant events.Integrating ideological and political education into the curriculum has become a crucial approach for actualizing this principle. In today’s era,the incorporation of ideological and political education into curricula is a fundamental aspect of both higher education reform and basic education teaching transformation.By weaving these educational concepts into a variety of disciplines,we can facilitate a seamless fusion of knowledge dissemination and value guidance, thereby enhancing students’ ideological, political, and humanistic qualities and advancing the attainment of comprehensive educational objectives. As a core subject in secondary education, high school chemistry plays a pivotal role in developing students’ scientific literacy, innovative thinking, and practical skills. This study, using the People’s Education Edition’s compulsory chemistry textbooks as a foundation, aims to integrate ideological and political education into chemistry instruction. This method reinforces students’ ideological and political learning, bolsters their humanistic understanding, and instills a sense of social responsibility and national devotion.By establishing an educational and teaching model centered on the discipline and steered by ideological and political education, the goals of fostering virtue and nurturing individuals can be more effectively realized.Initially, this study employs a literature analysis to examine domestic and international research related to the concept, theoretical underpinnings, and current developments of ideological and political education in curricula. The ideological and political aspects of high school chemistry are categorized into five dimensions: dialectical thinking and humanistic education, confidence in Chinese traditional culture, disciplinary value recognition, scientific spirit and social responsibility, and patriotism and national sentiment.Subsequently, the study utilizes text analysis to identify and consolidate the ideological and political components in the People’s Education Edition of high school chemistry compulsory textbooks, and it designs relevant teaching cases based on the principles of ideological and political education for practical application and efficacy assessment.Lastly, through surveys, the study explores high school chemistry students’ values, attitudes, and beliefs, and gathers insights, suggestions, and perspectives from frontline teachers regarding the integration of ideological and political education into high school chemistry courses. This research identifies the challenges of incorporating ideological and political education into high school chemistry instruction and puts forth implementation recommendations from social, teacher, and teaching standpoints, ultimately aiming to construct a more scientific, enriching, and intellectually engaging chemistry classroom. This effort lays a strong foundation for students’ comprehensive development, responsible behavior, and the proper establishment of ethical values.
