A Study On Metaphor Of Physical Education Teachers’ Stigmtization

As the internal and external support of the construction of physical education teachers,the image of physical education teachers is self-evident.The stigmatized image of PE teachers has existed for a long time,but it has not been paid enough attention.Through in-depth investigation of some typical cases,this study described the physical education teachers’ images of different students,different genders and different regions,revealed the generation logic of the physical education teachers’ stigmatized images and proposed the path to remove the stigmatized images of physical education teachers.The details are as follows.Firstly,it is on the basis of summarizing the related research at home and abroad,the label,stereotypes,stigmata,stigmatization,such as defining the relevant concepts.And then collect the description of the physical education teachers of different areas and different genders about their real situation,including the basic situation of teachers,the attitude to their career and the workload etc..Thus stigmatized image of the physical education teachers is depicted.Secondly,depict the image of PE teachers after stigmatization.Through case interviews with PE teachers of different genders and different regions,it is found that PE teachers of different genders and different regions have different descriptions of PE teachers of their respective learning sections,genders and regions.Physical education teachers in elementary,middle and university schools described physical education teachers as "cross-specialty teachers" and "hand-to-hand students","repeated transmission machine" and "emotionally exhausted tired","boring and stuffy chanting" and "familiar strangers".Male and female physical education teachers described physical education teachers as "ferocious tigers" and "physically strong rough","disobedient physical education teachers" and "intermittent disabled people".Rural and urban PE teachers describe PE teachers as "skilled tin workers" and "laggards with inferior skills","poor teachers" and "powerless scholars" respectively.Thirdly,it is a case study to describe the stigmatized image of PE teachers.It mainly consists of physical education teachers from external negation to internal identification and from negative avoidance to positive response.The study found that the physical education teacher’s external negation mainly includes their identity being questioned and denied,and their personality being humiliated and derogated,while the physical education teacher’s internal identity mainly includes their internalization of negative experience.The positive response of PE teachers is mainly about the stigmatized image of PE teachers’ correct cognition.P.E.teachers should have firm belief and professional consciousness to fulfill their duty and improve the teaching quality and search for the relationships with professional approval.Fourthly,explore the formation logic of PE teachers’ stigmatized image.This paper explores the formation logic of PE teachers’ stigmatized images from five aspects:historical and cultural roots,individual deviant behavior,one-sided social cognition,the anomie of news media and PE teachers’ self-derogation.It is found that in terms of historical and cultural roots,their body has been disciplined for a long time and the concept of sports has been despised for a long time.Besides,people ’ s negative stereotype to PE teachers has long existed.From the respective of individual deviant behavior,on the on hand,the wrong value existing in P.E.teachers themselves that physical education teachers value skills over knowledge.On the other hand,they lack professional quality and the anomie of professional behavior exists.From the perspective of social one-sided cognition,it is because of the public’s cognitive bias towards sports and the marginalization of physical education teachers.From the perspective of news media anomie,news media changes the pattern of public opinion,and the negative public opinion of P.E.teachers surges,and P.E.teachers’ discourse power loses balance,so they become silent spiral.From the perspective of physical education teachers themselves,external public stigmata promotes the formation of internal self-stigmata.It is due to the silence and self-indulgence of PE teachers and part of the physical education teachers’ negative degeneration,not thinking of progress.Fifthly,this paper explains the theoretical basis of PE teachers’ stigmatized image from three aspects: five stages,construction process and internal mechanism.It is found that from the five stages,it is labeling,namely,highlighting group differences,social stereotype,namely,aggregating negative emotions,and we and they,namely,separating the stigmatized group from the stigmatized group.It is also because of the loss of social status,namely,suffering from unfair conditions.The construction process includes self-stigma(negative stereotype),public stigma(low self-efficacy)and self-stigma(public stigma).The internal mechanism mainly explains the theoretical basis of PE teachers’ stigmatization from the perspectives of sociology,psychology,history and ethics.Finally,the paper puts forward the ways to remove the stigma of physical education teachers.It is necessary to initiate the re-enlightenment of sports culture and overcome the prejudice and discrimination against physical education teachers.It is important to eliminate the social public’s stereotype of physical education teachers reconstruct the impression and change distorted media coverage of PE teachers.Most importantly,physical education teacher’s social role and self-redemption should be strengthened.
