Primary and secondary school physical education teachers are a key element in improving the quality of school physical education.Previous studies have shown that young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools have significantly different identities from other teachers.Exploring young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools is not only a theoretical deepening of the research on female teachers,but also a beneficial exploration of the professional development practice of physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools.This study aims to explore the process of constructing the identity of young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools through questionnaire surveys and interview surveys.Firstly,a questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the current status of physical education teachers’ identity in primary and secondary schools,with a focus on analyzing the common characteristics and gender differences of physical education teachers’ identity.A total of 209 questionnaires were distributed and 209 were collected in this survey,with a 100% effective rate.On the basis of the questionnaire survey,an interview method was further used to investigate the process of identity construction for young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools.This interview included 20 young female physical education teachers in Beijing(all aged 18-35).Conduct three-level coding analysis of interview data using Nvivo 12 software.The results are as follows:(1)The status quo of the identity of physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools is: male physical education teachers have a high degree of gender identity;There are two situations of gender identity of female PE teachers:one is that the degree of their own gender identity is lower than that of male PE teachers;the other is that their own gender identity is more comprehensive than that of male PE teachers;Male physical education teachers have a stronger attitude towards gender equality than female physical education teachers,and men tend to prefer their own gender;Married and childbearing physical education teachers have higher levels of gender equality attitude and awareness;Compared to the group of physical education teachers aged 30-39,the group aged 20-29 tends to use attribute words with female stereotypes to describe themselves;The group of physical education teachers with 0-5 years of teaching experience has the lowest level of gender equality attitude.(2)The construction of the identity of young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools includes six elements,which are in order: reasons for professional choice,reasons for career choice,perception of identity based on career environment,growth based on career development cycle,formation of career achievement,and difficulties and needs of career development.The above six elements have a progressive social process relationship,among which identity perception based on professional environment,growth based on professional development cycle,and the formation of professional achievement are the core elements of identity construction for young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools.(3)The identity of young female PE teachers in primary and secondary schools is mainly composed of professional identity,gender identity,and professional identity,which are mutually affected.The research conclusion is as follows:(1)There are differences in the identity of physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools of different genders.Female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools are weaker than male physical education teachers in gender equality attitude and gender identity.(2)The construction of the identity of young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools includes six elements,and there is a progressive social process relationship between the six elements.The core elements of identity construction for young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools are identity perception based on their professional environment,growth based on their career development cycle,and the formation of a sense of professional achievement.(3)In the identity of young female PE teachers in primary and secondary schools,their professional identity supports professional identity in one direction,professional identity and gender identity promote in both directions,and gender identity restricts professional identity in one direction.(4)The identity of young female physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools is jointly constructed by two parts: macro social process and micro psychological process.
