In existing research, narrative therapy mostly focuses on the elderly widowed women group, but middle-aged widowed women not only need to support themselves, but also both parents.Their tolerance to difficulties is weaker than that of elderly widowed women, which is also the object we need to pay attention to.As a post-modern treatment method, narrative therapy uses the way of ’ storytelling ’ to separate problems from people, emphasizing the reflection of stories to stimulate individual potential to solve practical problems. At present, there are few studies on the application of narrative therapy to rural middle-aged widowed women.Based on this, the research questions of this study are put forward:what kind of psychological dilemma does rural middle-aged widowed women have?Is it effective to solve the existing psychological dilemma of rural middle-aged widowed women by rewriting life stories through narrative therapy? What are the obstacles and explore the countermeasures, and finally summarize and reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of narrative therapy in the application of this research case. This study adopts action research and takes narrative therapy intervention model as the practical framework.Firstly, through the interviews with three rural middle-aged widowed women and the results of the Warwick-Edinburgh Positive Mental Health Scale, the main psychological difficulties of this group were summarized, and a representative was selected as the service object.Secondly, through the narration of the story, the externalization of the problem, etc.,the old story of the service object is deconstructed;then rewrite new stories by finding special results and rewriting dialogues. Finally, the new story is consolidated through outsider witness and farewell ceremony. The study found that the action research with narrative therapy as a practical framework has a positive effect on intervening in the psychological dilemma of rural middle-aged widowed women, improving negative emotions, enhancing the sense of life meaning,self-evaluation and interpersonal communication. The advantage of narrative therapy in this study is that it is conducive to the establishment of the relationship between social workers and service objects, preventing social workers from appearing as " experts," getting out of the perspective of problems, and helping service objects to rewrite life stories. However, there are also some obstacles in the application of narrative therapy. For example, the emotional grasp and questioning skills of the service objects are not in place, which requires social workers to flexibly grasp the relevant theories and methods of narrative therapy. There are also limitations in the application of narrative therapy to rural middle-aged widowed women. For example,it is difficult to determine the scope of applicable objects, the effect of narrative therapy is difficult to sustain, the ability and flexibility of social workers are required, and the treatment process is affected by social and cultural environment.Through the intervention process, the author summarizes the general operation mode of narrative therapy to rewrite the life story of rural middle-aged widowed women.Through reflection, the author also puts forward the research prospect of theoretical diversification, form diversification and localization of narrative therapy, which is helpful to promote the better development of narrative therapy.
