The self-regulated learning ability is one of the key abilities that students should have to adapt to a learning society,and in the context of the strategic goal of talent training,which has tended to change from "knowledge-based" to "literacy-based",the self-regulated learning ability is regarded as the essence and core of core literacy.In addition,in the new round of basic curriculum reform,the state has clearly put forward the requirement of "changing students’ learning style",which means that the importance of independent learning style has been recognized at the national level.In this study,we investigate the current situation of the development of students’ self-regulated learning ability in mathematics and the problems of students’ independent learning process in a high school in Shihezi City,and propose actionable strategies and suggestions from the perspectives of both students’ actual situation and teachers’ teaching practice.This study adopts the literature review method,questionnaire survey method,interview method,and classroom observation method.First,through literature review,the current status of research on independent learning at home and abroad was sorted out and theoretical discussions were conducted.Then,we designed a questionnaire on the current situation of independent learning in mathematics for high school students according to the macro and micro competencies of independent learning,and after passing the reliability test,the questionnaire was distributed to all students in the first year of high school.The results were supplemented by teacher-student interviews on the basis of the questionnaire,and further analyzed by classroom observations of students’ independent learning processes in different classroom contexts.The integration of the survey data led to the following conclusions.Overall,high school students’ self-regulated learning ability in mathematics is at a moderate to low level,and the internal structure of independent learning ability is unevenly developed.In the macro ability dimension of independent learning,the score rates of planning ability,behavior execution and monitoring ability are not very different,and the ability of self-evaluation and reflection is the lowest.In the microcompetence dimensions of independent learning,the scores of independent learning motivation,independent learning environment and independent learning plan are close to the average level,while the scores of independent learning implementation,independent learning control and independent learning evaluation are at the middle to lower level.In addition,the independent learning ability dimensions showed different degrees of correlation with each other,and the self-regulated learning ability of mathematics had significant differences in gender.According to the survey and analysis,the following problems were found.First,there is a gap between students’ independent learning attitudes and their independent learning ability,which is manifested in the lack of independent learning motivation,weak goal consciousness,lack of learning strategies,and unsatisfactory self-evaluation effect.Secondly,there are unfavorable factors influencing the cultivation of students’ independent learning ability in teaching,which are manifested in teachers’ poor understanding of the concept of independent learning and the creation of classroom independent learning situations in a formal way.In view of the problems found in the survey,strategies and suggestions for cultivating independent learning ability are proposed.First,to guide students to analyze the tasks so that they can "learn",specifically by stimulating the motivation of independent learning,knowing why to learn,clarifying learning objectives,knowing what to learn,teaching students sufficient learning strategies,knowing how to learn,and encouraging students to self-evaluate and reflect;second,to reasonably create independent learning situations so that students "able to learn",which is specifically operated to meet independent learners’ role expectations of teachers,optimize classroom questioning behavior,build cooperative learning communities,and design graded classroom tasks.The cultivation of self-regulated learning ability in mathematics is a step-by-step process.It is hoped that the investigation and research in this paper can draw teachers’ and students’ attention to the cultivation of independent learning ability,and at the same time provide directional guidance for teachers to implement the independent learning teaching mode and promote students’ independent learning.
