After the reform and opening up,the income level of farmers has been greatly improved, and food purchase occupies an increasing proportion in the food consumption of rural residents in China. Can not be ignored is that large-scale land from food crops into the planting of economic crops, change the type of agricultural production, rural residents more specialized cultivation, rising Labour costs at the same time, more and more rural residents to urban employment, but it is not clear the change of land use and rural non-agricultural employment and the influence of the impact on food purchasing mechanism. Therefore, the research hypothesis of this paper is proposed: do land use and non-agricultural employment affect the food purchase of rural residents? What are the mechanisms by which land use and non-agricultural employment influence the food purchase of rural residents? This article is based on 2019 xishuangbanna dai ethnic minority autonomous prefecture in yunnan province village survey data of 945 farmers in 62,the first Tobit model was constructed to investigate diversity of proportion of economic crops, agricultural production and the influence of non-agricultural employment of rural residents to buy food,at the same time, the instrumental variable method is adopted to solve the economic diversity and employment proportion of crop, agricultural production of endogenous problems.Secondly, this paper analyzes the impact mechanism of land use and non-agricultural employment on food purchase of rural households in Xishuangbanna.Thirdly,an econometric model is constructed to clarify the impact of land use and non-agricultural employment on the purchase of different types of food by rural residents. Finally,a series of robustness tests were performed. The results show that :(1)Rural residents buy more food.(2)Families with larger cash crop planting area, single crop planting type and non-agricultural employment are more inclined to buy food.In addition,in terms of food consumption structure, the proportion of cash crops promotes the increase of the proportion of grain, vegetables and pork, while the diversity of agricultural production reduces the purchase of grain, vegetables, pork and eggs.Non-agricultural employment has a significant driving effect on the purchase of grain.(3)There was a negative correlation between food purchase and garden planting, livestock and poultry breeding, and distance to township center.(4)Off-farm employment affects food purchases by rural residents by affecting land use and household income.Based on the above research conclusions,in order to ensure the food safety of rural residents, the following suggestions are proposed:(1)encourage farmers to diversify their crops and increase the diversity of agricultural production.(2)Expand non-agricultural employment channels for rural residents and guide farmers to get non-agricultural employment.(3)Properly maintain livestock and poultry breeding and vegetable planting of rural residents.(4)Increase farmers’ income and improve their ability to buy food to ensure food security. This paper reveals the changes in farmers’ food purchasing behavior under the background of rural economic transformation, and provides feasible suggestions for food security, which can be used as a reference for farmers’ family food security in Xishuangbanna and similar areas.
