Research On The Ethical Dilemma And Countermeasures Of The Application For Client Self-Determination In The Practice Of Youth Social Work

As one of the core values of social work,client self-determination is an ethical code that must be abided by in the course of social work practice,and an important means to solve client problems.In the process of practicing this principle,workers will inevitably encounter various ethical problems.These dilemmas will run through all stages of the social work process.At the same time,they are the most effective measure to measure the actual ability of social workers.A serious test for every social worker.In actual social work,it is found that for front-line social workers who are new to practice,they will encounter many ethical dilemmas.This article mainly discusses the ethical dilemma of client self-determination in adolescent social work practice.For front-line social workers in District X of Y City,it collects and integrates materials through questionnaires and practical interviews,and analyzes the application of client self-determination in this region.The current state of ethical dilemmas.According to the survey results,social workers will encounter various ethical dilemmas at different stages in the practice process.Ethical issues run through the practice process from beginning to end,and the causes are the result of various factors.First,before self-determination,social workers are caught in a dilemma of indecision due to the conflict of whether to help the client to self-determination brought about by the characteristics of the juvenile client.Secondly,in the process of self-determination,workers want to help clients make decisions that are beneficial to them.On the one hand,they are easily influenced by paternalistic concepts and have ambiguous control over the limits of intervention;Conflicts of interest among institutions,governments,and other social support networks have led to new ethical dilemmas.Finally,after helping clients to self-determination,due to the mutual influence of various interest groups,in order to ensure the results of client selfdetermination,social workers will still encounter ethical dilemmas when balancing the priority between client self-determination and other interests.Based on this,this paper categorizes ethical issues according to the logic before self-determination,during self-determination and after self-determination,and also analyzes the relevant factors of the ethical dilemma of client self-determination from three dimensions: social work,client and social environment..Then,in terms of discussing ethics improvement strategies,combined with the perspective of the previous analysis,strategic suggestions were put forward from the three dimensions of social workers,clients and social organizations,the main participants in selfdetermination,so as to cultivate client’s self-determination awareness and enhance client’s self-determination ability.Finally,based on the conclusions above,general steps and suggestions for realizing client self-determination are summarized from the three stages before and after self-determination,so as to enrich the connotation of client self-determination and promote the development of youth social work practice.
