The Impact Of Identity On The Choice Of Informal Employment Of Floating Population

China’s market economic system has been gradually established and improved since the reform and opening up.The employment mode of informal employment has developed rapidly.There are emerging occupations such as network-anchor and take out riders have emerged in their life.Nevertheless,the people engaged in informal employment in cities are often concentrated in the migrant population,and the proportion of the migrant population engaged in informal employment is much higher than that of the local people.The poor working environment of the informal employment groups,the low-level post income,and the labor rights and interests cannot be guaranteed most frequently.If the migrant population is at a priori disadvantage in the inflow local labor market,then it will affect the employment and development expectations of the migrant population in the inflow city,the attraction of the city has reduced to the migrant population,and is not conducive to the long-term development of the city.Exploring the influencing factors of the informal employment choice of the floating population has attracted increasing attention from scholars.Most of the existing studies remain in the statistical level of description,and carry out empirical research from the view of identity by few authors.The identity results reflect the integration of the floating population in the inflow area,and will have an influence on their economic behavior.Based on this,this paper tries to conduct an empirical analysis and explain the informal employment selection behavior of the floating population from the perspective of identification.Based on the data of 2014 national population health monitoring and dynamic monitoring survey,this paper focus on the floating population,This paper uses probit and ivprobit methods to analyze the influence of identity on informal employment of floating population under the theoretical framework of identity Economics.The study finds that a large proportion of floating population worked in informal work,and their identity has a significantly negative impact on the choice of informal employment.The innovations of this paper,Firstly,this paper explores the influence of identity on informal employment of the floating population and provides a new perspective in such field.Secondly,this papers analyzes the influence mechanism of identity on informal employment.The shortcoming of this paper is the limitation of data.We can’t get panel data,so it is impossible to explore the trends in the identity and informal employment over time.This paper established an IV with “Whether to establish resident health records for floating population”and use 2sls & ivprobit to solve potential endogenous problems;The robustness of the regression results is tested by replacing the core independent variables and changing the sample size.In order to further analyze the mechanism between floating population identity and informal employment choice,this paper constructs the intermediary variable of “community participation”,as a reflection of the social capital status of floating population.The results show that the floating population with identity in the inflow area can better integrate into various local social organizations,actively participate in various social activities,expand their social capital in the labor market and enable them to obtain more employment information and employment opportunities,increase their competitiveness in the labor market of the inflow place and reduce their probability of engaging in informal employment.Finally,this paper divides the floating population into groups according to different registered residence types,different generations,labor market,flow range and inflow area to analyze the inter group differences of the impact of identity on informal employment choice.It analyzes whether there are differences between different groups in the impact of identity on informal employment choice.Here are policy suggestions of this paper.Firstly,the government should take the community as the carrier to promote the sharing of foreign floating population and urban locals,strengthen the identification of foreign floating population groups to the inflow to promote its more actively participate in all kinds of social organizations,increase its social capital,enhance its competitiveness in the labor market,so as to reduce the probability of engaging in informal employment.Secondly,the government should pay attention to the secondary labor market,new generation,non-agricultural registration,inflow for the floating population,encourage its participation in community organizations,create a good community mutual environment,offer community employment training,share employment information,and expand the scope of employment choice of floating population,make the floating population and local residents enjoy equal employment status and employment opportunities,increase the attraction of urban foreign floating population,promote the better development of new urbanization.
