| The outbreak of the new crown epidemic has highlighted the strong demand for social work professionals in society, but in recent years, many social work graduates are reluctant to engage in social work and related industries, which is closely related to the low recognition of professional students.Studies have found that the professional identity of social work students is affected by various factors such as employment prospects, professional learning status, social awareness, and professional practice, among which professional internships are a key factor that cannot be ignored.Social work professional internship is crucial to professional education, constitutes a key component of the entire social work professional education, plays an important role in promoting the transformation of professional theoretical knowledge into specific practical skills, and promotes the internalization of professional values into practical actions, which can help professional students gradually deepen their understanding of the majors they have learned, thereby improving the level of professional recognition.Based on this, this study attempts to explore the impact of social work internships on the recognition of social work master’s majors, identify the multifaceted reasons that affect professional practice, and propose countermeasures that can improve the status of social work internships. This study took Wuhan universities as the object, combined the sampling methods of random sampling and snowball sampling, and selected 182 masters of social work from 5 universities in Wuhan to conduct an online questionnaire survey. The interview method and other methods were used to investigate the professional practice and professional identification of social work masters in Wuhan. The study found that the internship time of the master of social work is mainly concentrated in the last academic year, and the internship duration is generally 1-3 months. In the process of professional practice, professional social work, auxiliary work of the internship unit and general office work are all involved and the distribution is relatively balanced.School supervisors often or occasionally guide professional students, mainly in terms of professionalism, professional knowledge and scientific research ability. The master of social work has a higher application rate of professional knowledge and methods in the practice process, higher satisfaction with professional practice, and a lot of gains from professional practice. The professional identity of the master of social work is at an upper-middle level, and the scores of each dimension are relatively balanced. The results of correlation analysis and regression analysis showed that there was a correlation between social work professional practice and social work master’s professional identity.Among them, the length of professional internship, the main work content of professional practice, the frequency of school supervisors’ guidance, and the satisfaction with professionalpractice are positively correlated with professional identity. In view of the above situation, the author puts forward the following suggestions:in the social work professional practice, colleges and universities should consider the actual situation of the students, and reasonably arrange the time and duration of the professional practice;the work content of the professional practice should take into account both professional work and ordinary work;In the process, the school supervisor should increase the frequency of internship supervision for professional students;the school should also reasonably connect with social work practice units to provide a good practice environment for professional students to conduct social work professional practice. |
