The Study On The Explosion Of Internet Jokes In Contemporary China

Jokes are common all over the world.In contemporary China,Internet jokes have exploded.Why did this sociocultural phenomenon happen?Firstly,this paper describes the basic situation of the cyberfield through the analysis of existing statistical data.Secondly,this paper quantitatively describes the internet jokes by using the content analysis method and chooses typical jokes to explain the tension between the individual and the society in the internet jokes by using qualitative analysis method.Thirdly,the compatibility between network field and joke explosion is analyzed by applying the carnival theory.Fourthly,the study analyzes the meaning and function of internet jokes explosion.Based on the above analysis,the paper puts forward the explanation frame of the big explosion of internet jokes.The survey finds that internet jokes spread in the form of text,picture and video on joke websites and online entertainment programs,showing explosive growth.The majority of internet jokes receivers are students and general staff.There are varieties of themes of internet jokes,including gender jokes,family jokes,educational jokes,moral jokes,body jokes,economic jokes and political jokes.The study finds that internet jokes embody the tension between individuals and society.Individuals have the impulse to break social norms and also be dissatisfy with immoral behaviors.Individuals pursue material wealth and be dissatisfy with unfair distribution of interests.Individuals desire for equal status and harbor resentment toward corruption.Tension exist between individuals and social systems,including cultural,economic and political systems.Cyberfield is open,anonymous and absent.There are no complex interpersonal relationships,no strict cultural norms,no economic troubles,no professional divisions,no power suppression,no institutional constraints in the cyberfield.The social integration force is somewhat weakened.so the cyberfield can be seen as an online carnival.In the real world,people live orderly and cautious lives with limited release of tension.When people enter the carnival cyberfield,they contact each other intimately,tell dirty jokes,reverse position and degrade.People go into a frenzy.This releases the tension brought by the real society,which leads to the explosion of internet jokes.The study finds that internet jokes have rich meaning for individuals.The first is transcendental adaptation.The individual releases pressure through jokes,promotes communication,absorbs wisdom and promotes personal development through internet jokes.The second is adjustment adaptation.The individuals kill time,get rid of boredom and make up for the unhappy life.The third is escapist adaptation.Individuals indulge in the Internet through jokes to escape from reality and vent their dissatisfaction.In terms of social function,internet jokes criticize deviant behaviors,praise witty characters,stimulate turbidity and promote purity,which is conducive to social integration.It can release the social emotion,reflect the social problem and have the function of social safety valve.But some internet jokes satirize some groups so that their identity is damaged,which may do harm to social harmony.And internet jokes tend to be vulgar,which may harm social morality.
