With the rapid growth of the elderly population, the global aging phenomenon has become a social hot topic of concern for various countries.Meanwhile,in the digital era,the use of intelligent technology by the elderly and the existing problems have aroused widespread concern in the country and society.Among them, short videos, represented by Tiktok and Kwai, have become an indispensable entertainment tool for the elderly. The starting point of this study is how the elderly group themselves understand their short video usage behavior, what impact short videos will have on the elderly, and how the intervention of short videos can help the elderly enrich their later life, which is the core issue. This article mainly focuses on the use of short videos by the elderly in Zibo City as the main research object.Through in-depth interviews,we understand the underlying reasons for the use of short videos by the elderly, and analyze it from the theoretical perspective of media domestication.Firstly, from the stage of commercialization and imagination, designers and manufacturers will functionalize short videos based on the usage needs of the elderly, giving them symbolic meaning. At the same time, the elderly will generate imagination and expectations before use, which is the pre preset stage of short videos;Secondly, from the stage of possession and embedding, explore the spatiotemporal embedding process of short videos in the daily lives of the elderly.Misappropriation refers to the elderly modifying their short video accounts themselves, which is the beginning of domestication by diverting short videos from the "public" to the private sector;Objectification refers to the spatial scene used by elderly short videos, which is divided into physical space and virtual space, and has an impact on children and marital relationships during use;Integration is a two-stage differentiation in the usage time of short videos by elderly people, namely "machine dependent" and "occasional use".With the service of short videos in daily life, most elderly people have gradually developed a dependence on short videos, becoming deeply trapped and unable to extricate themselves, becoming "internet addicted elderly";Finally, from the stage of transformation,we will explore how elderly people present themselves to others through short videos. They will pursue the construction of their own identity and physical performance. They are no longer "digital vulnerable groups",but active media users.However,long-term use has an impact on the physical and psychological functions of elderly people, causing them to reflect on short videos.Research has found that the elderly population uses short videos as a tool for entertainment, satisfying their own spiritual consumption, while expanding their social circle and social space through the domestication of short videos. In short, online "immersive" socializing for the elderly has successfully integrated short videos into daily life; The domestication of short videos showcases personalized self, gains recognition from others, and alleviates physical anxiety; The change in media image and traditional concepts has made elderly people more willing to openly discuss the use of short videos, breaking the media stereotypes of the elderly; But at the same time, the negative effects of watching short videos for a long time on the body and life of the elderly cannot be ignored.
