| The year of 2013 has been described as the first year of short video.In this year,short videos quickly became the most popular form of social media,capturing the attention of people of all ages and with a significant number of users.As digital immigrants,the elderly is gradually becoming part of the short video creators with intergenerational feedbacks and peer guidance,which also meets the needs of the digital and aging era.This paper focuses on the relationship between the use of short videos and re-socialization among the elderly.The paper also explores the image characteristics,motivation and re-socialization dimensions of elderly people’s self-presentation in short videos.The paper uses in-depth interviews to collect the motivation and re-socialization dimensions of short video self-presentation among the elderly.The text analysis method was used to summarize and analyze the content characteristics of short videos of older people.After data collection and analysis,this paper explains the self-presentation behaviors of the elderly group in three chapters.In the first chapter,based on 35respondents’ short video social accounts,text analysis is applied to explain the overall overview of short video self-presentation of the elderly group at present.The overall profile is divided into foreground symbolic settings and personal foreground settings.Among them,the foreground symbolic settings are subdivided into the exploration of screen names,avatars,personal signatures,scene settings,background music,etc.in the social accounts of the elderly.In the personal foreground setting aspect,based on the content of different types of short videos and corresponding symbolic settings,this paper extracts the main types of self-presentation short videos of senior citizens as life record,individual display and drama interpretation.In addition,this paper concludes that the characteristics of self-presentation of the elderly groups have triple relationship attributes and entertainment tendency.Chapter 2 and 3 are mainly based on the analysis and summary of the data collected by the in-depth interview method.Chapter 2 discusses the motives for self-presentation in short videos of elderly group,including intrinsic motives and extrinsic motives.The intrinsic motivation is to record daily life,entertainment,emotional comfort,and self-image construction.In addition to the self-referential needs of the elderly,the support and assistance from the outside world are also important factors that drive the elderly to try to use short video self-presentation,that is,the extrinsic drivers include media empowerment and other’s guidance.Chapter 3 summarizes the practical significance of the use of short video self-presentation by the elderly group,which is the re-socialization aspect.The short video self-presentation behavior of elderly group mainly achieves social capital re-socialization,emotional re-socialization,economic re-socialization and educational re-socialization.The research shows that the use of short video self-presentation by the elderly group is a convenient way of social participation and an important form of expression to cope with active aging.This is conducive to enhancing the self-value of the elderly group and making them gain a meaningful life in older age.This study takes the elderly as the main subject of research.On the one hand,it aims to make the elderly get rid of their fear and resistance to digital media and clarify the relationship between the self-presentation and re-socialization of short videos;on the other hand,it aims to improve the social stereotypes of the elderly and raise the attention of the family,society and media to the elderly.Meanwhile,we encourage and guide the elderly group to strengthen social participation,show their social value and realize positive aging. |
