In recent years,with the application of smart phones and the development of mobile internet,short video has also achieved rapid growth.Since the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy,the dissemination of short videos has gradually reached rural areas.More and more farmers are using short films to showcase rural life,awakening people’s nostalgia and memories of rural life.With the help of short videos,rural culture can be promoted and disseminated,which is of great significance for building a new rural image,disseminating and revitalizing rural culture.The author chose "Zhang Xuexue",the creator of Tiktok short video,who has won a good reputation,as the research object.His real name is Zhang Kai.On October 4,2021,he released his first work on the Tiktok platform.The broadcast volume of a single video was nearly 250 million,and the number of fans increased by more than 18 million in three months.The production of short video works needs to grasp the laws of image narration.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the characteristics and techniques of image narration in Zhang’s works.This article aims to analyze and study Zhang’s works based on the theory of image narratology,explore the characteristics of image narratives in Zhang’s works,provide reference for the development of rural short videos,and propose some suggestions on how to use image narratives to disseminate rural culture based on his experience in image narratives.This article has five chapters in total.The first chapter uses the content analysis method to study the basic situation and content of Zhang’s works,explore the characteristics of the communication content of his works,analyze the content creation rules of Zhang’s works and the reasons why his works are loved by netizens,and provide a research basis for subsequent research.The second chapter mainly analyzes the image narrative symbols in Zhang’s works from visual and auditory symbols,creating a rustic and sensual pastoral romance through lens language symbols,character symbols,background music,and simultaneous sound.The third chapter mainly analyzes the image narrative structure of Zhang’s works from four aspects:narrative time,narrative space,narrative angle,and narrative plot.In terms of narrative time,it uses sequential,multiple time intervals,and summary narration.In terms of narrative angle,it presents the story screen through the combination of internal and external perspectives.In terms of narrative space,it creates a three-dimensional sense and imaginative space to create a living space under collective memory.In terms of narrative plot,it completes the narration of the story through artistic processing.The fourth chapter mainly analyzes Zhang’s video narrative skills from the perspective of video shooting techniques and editing techniques.It is found that Zhang has added a large number of empty shots to create an atmosphere,combining fixed shots with motion shots,and adding montage editing techniques and hard cut transitions to complete the shooting of rural stories.The fifth chapter combines Zhang’s skills in image narration in his works,and proposes how to use short video images to disseminate rural culture.It emphasizes the power of folk communication,cultivates new farmers,uses images to create unique styles,achieves personalized communication,improves the media quality of creators,correctly guides values,seeks common meaning spaces,constructs emotional resonance,and strengthens new media technology,Suggestions on promoting rural cultural revitalization.Innovation points:From a theoretical perspective,the current academic community rarely studies short videos using video narrative theory.Taking Zhang as the research object has high academic value.Exploring the skills and regular characteristics of Zhang’s works in terms of video narrative content,symbols,structure,shooting,and other aspects can supplement the current academic research.From a practical perspective,Zhang is currently influential.He combines rural culture with new media technology to attract netizens’ attention to rural life through individual narratives,and has done a relatively good job in cultural communication,which is worthy of learning and reference from other self media,helping us to think about how to use short video images to disseminate rural culture.
