Digital Divide Among The Elderly In The Context Of COVID-19 Epidemic

The outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic has fluctuated social environment,the contradiction between the elderly and the digital media appeared gradually.Because of our country has entered the aging society,as an important part of society,the elderly should not be ignored as the boundary of the digital age.We should give them more digital care.With the help of all social groups,let the elder people enjoy the digital convenience.As the author participated in volunteer activities in Jiahe Village,Baiyun District,Guangzhou,during the epidemic times,the digital divide among the elderly is an issue of interest to the author.In addition,through literature reading,the author found that the digital divide of the elderly is one of the main concerns of Chinese scholars,and there are relatively few studies on the epidemic background.In view of this,the author attempts to examine the status quo of digital divide among the elderly in Jiahe Village from the perspective of digital divide theory under the background of epidemic.The author believes that in the post-EPIDEMIC era,the use of digital media by the elderly is a livelihood issue.And it’s worth of social attention,which concerns the digital happiness of the elderly.Based on this,the author attempts to apply the relevant theories of journalism and communication discipline,in-depth interviews,participant observation research methods,the elderly population in guangzhou baiyun district golden village as the research object,discussed under the background of the outbreak in elderly population problem of the digital divide,bridge are put forward based on the problems existing in the elderly group strategy of the digital divide.Through investigation and research,the author found that in the developed areas of urban villages in the elderly groups still have difficulties in accessing equipment,psychological access fear;Lack of ability to identify the authenticity of information;Lack of motivation and interest and uneven skill level;There are digital divide problems between the elderly and other groups,such as intergenerational gap,and there are also differences in the level of digital media use among the elderly.Because this kind of digital gap will not disappear with the passage of time.However,with the development of the network process,the development of a new digital divide situation,so the author believes that not only to focus on the present,the future of the digital divide development situation of the elderly group should also become the focus of scholars.And aiming at the existence of the elderly in the present situation of the digital divide.The author use the view of the government,the enterprises,the social and the family.Suggest to consummate the digital ecology,build Bridges across the physical and psychological barriers and other feasible measures to bridge the digital divide,hope the social from all walks of life hand in hand to help the elderly to solve digital problem,across the digital divide,the construction of the elderly friendly digital social harmony.All in allt,the purpose of this thesis is to hope that relevant departments,organizations in high-speed digital media development and outbreak repeatedly to pay attention to the elderly under the background of the era of information dissemination environment with Numbers,as far as possible to improve the elderly under digital environment,narrow the digital divide of the elderly,construct an elderly friendly era of digital media.
