The 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that "Chinesestyle modernization is a modernization that embodies the harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature." This is the conclusion drawn by our party in the practice of solving ecological and environmental problems and building ecological civilization.China’s ecological civilization construction has achieved great results, but the ecological and environmental problems that still exist are still the key problems that need to be solved in the new journey of building a strong country and realizing national rejuvenation. The root cause of environmental problems is fundamentally the rupture of the balance between humans and nature, which belongs to philosophical and ethical issues. So,how to coordinate the relationship between humans and nature, and solve environmental problems? Engels’ view of nature provides valuable answers for us to learn from.Engels built his theory of nature around the core issue of the natural world and the relationship between humans and nature. It provides important theoretical guidance and value inspiration for us to respect, comply with, and protect nature, and to achieve harmonious coexistence and interaction between humans and nature.Based on this, this thesis comprehensively and systematically explores the formation conditions, theoretical sources, main contents, and contemporary values of Engels’ view of nature. This thesis is composed of four parts. In the introduction, the background and significance of the topic are explained, the research status of Engels’ natural philosophy and its value by domestic and foreign scholars are analyzed, and the research approach and methods of this thesis are proposed, forming the research framework. The second part explains the relevant concepts, formation conditions, and theoretical sources of Engels’ natural philosophy.Firstly, the definitions and interpretations of concepts such as nature, natural philosophy, and dialectical materialist natural philosophy are clarified.Secondly, the natural conditions, social conditions, and natural science conditions for the formation of Engels’ natural philosophy are examined. Finally, the theoretical sources of Engels’ natural philosophy are analyzed.Engels’ natural philosophy incorporates the rational ideas of ancient naive natural philosophy, surpasses modern mechanical natural philosophy, and critiques the natural philosophy of classical philosophy. The third part comprehensively explains the main contents of Engels’ natural philosophy.Starting from the classic texts of Marx and Engels, this thesis analyzes and explains Engels’ ontological theory of natural existence, value theory of natural existence, dialectical theory of natural development, and historical theory of natural development. These theories pervade the relationships between humans and nature, humans and society, and nature and society, forming the main content of Engels’ natural philosophy. The fourth part deeply discusses the contemporary value of Engels’ natural philosophy.Engels’ natural philosophy is rich in content, profound in thought, and has a strong ecological connotation. It is the theoretical foundation of Xi Jinping’s ecological civilization thought and has important guiding significance for deepening the understanding and correct handling of the relationships between humans and humans, humans and nature, and humans and society in contemporary times. It provides theoretical guidance for building an ecological civilization and achieving low-carbon,circular,green,and sustainable development in China in the new era.Firstly,Engels’ natural philosophy provides important guidance for the dialectical development of humans and nature in terms of worldview and methodology.Secondly,Engels’ natural philosophy lays the theoretical foundation for the idea of "harmonious coexistence between humans and nature".Thirdly,Engels’ natural philosophy provides value guidance for the concept of "green mountains and rivers are as valuable as gold and silver".Finally,Engels’ natural philosophy has profound insights for the idea of "respecting, adapting to,and protecting nature".
