In recent years, with the global warming and the continuous melting of Arctic ice pack, the development of marine industry, the exploration and exploitation of resources, the traffic in the Arctic and the competition for the interests of relevant countries for the Arctic have made the Arctic oceanic problems increasingly prominent. The Arctic boundary disputes and the increase of Arctic traffic have brought the challenges and opportunities to the governance of the Arctic region. In this context, the Chinese translation of Arctic shipping is of important theoretical significance and practical value. This report takes"Arctic Boundary Disputes and Increased Arctic Traffic" as the research object of translation practice, aims at accurately conveying text information and considering the readers’ feelings of the target language under the guidance of Halliday’s cohesion theory. In translation, the author found that there are four forms of grammatical cohesion in the original text, including reference, cohesion, substitution and ellipsis. It is a difficult translation problem to faithfully reproduce the functions of the four forms of cohesion in the version. For different cohesion forms, the author mainly adopts four translation methods involving retention, reference, ellipsis, amplification and word order adjustment to make the version accurate, normative and professional, and improve the quality of the version. This translation practice report can provide reference for the Chinese translation of the related texts. |
