In order to ensure the health and safety of Chinese language teachers and learners,Confucius Institutes in Australia switched from offline face-to-face teaching to online teaching,and real-time online Chinese language courses came into being.The online Chinese teaching mode solves the dilemma of "unable to get out" and "unable to get in" in the current Confucius Institutes,alleviates the conflicts between teachers and students in terms of time and space,and enables the smooth operation of overseas Confucius Institutes.Although this flexible and convenient teaching method has been favored by many Chinese learners at home and abroad,the online Chinese teaching mode of the Confucius Institute in Newcastle,Australia(hereinafter referred to as the "Confucius Institute in Newcastle")has a short time of use,immature development and hasty teaching activities,and some teaching problems have emerged during this period,which need to be solved and improved urgently.The main research content of this study is our Zoom platform based adult online Chinese teaching experience in Confucius Institute of Newcastle from January 2021 to December 2022.It analyzes the teaching status of Newcastle Confucius Institute and our own teaching process in the past three years,and finds the pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar problems of students.In order to solve these problems,Design specific teaching content and activities.Combined with my experience in the teaching process and the feedback of students after class,put forward the corresponding solution measures.It is hoped to add some thinking directions for the future research and operation of online teaching and provide reference for the future development of international Chinese education.This study is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction.This paper mainly introduces the research background and significance of this research,and clarifies the research status related to this research from the following three directions: the research on the design of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the research on the current teaching status in Australia,and the research status of Zoom platform.The literature review is carried out in these three aspects.In general,there are few researches on online Chinese teaching design for adults in recent years,and there are also few researches on the corresponding instructional design aiming at the problems in online teaching.The second chapter is the summary and analysis of the current situation of online teaching in Newcastle Confucius Institute.This part first introduces the online teaching objects,teaching staff,teaching scale and textbooks used in Confucius Institute of Newcastle.Combined with the first-hand survey data obtained by the author in Confucius Institute,it analyzes the current status of online teaching for adults in Confucius Institute of Newcastle.The third chapter is in the process of teaching,we found students in phonetics,vocabulary,grammar problems,to make a teaching design and implement.Firstly,the process of using Zoom platform is introduced,and the corresponding teaching design is developed one by one for students’ problems in pronunciation and intonation,difficulty in improving their vocabulary in vocabulary learning,neglect of single morpheme meaning,difficulty in applying language points to specific situations,difficulty in discriminating synonyms and so on,and then applied to online courses.Finally,the author summarizes the teaching experience and students’ feedback after class.The fourth chapter puts forward teaching reflection and suggestion for the whole teaching activity.This chapter summarizes,analyzes and reflects on the teaching design and problems in the course of online teaching.On the whole,in terms of the current online Chinese teaching for adult students in Australia,the teaching design should highlight systematicness,demand-type and epochal.In the teaching process,teachers should pay attention to control the rhythm of online teaching,actively improve the interaction of teaching,pronunciation teaching should be timely distinguish sound and correct,reduce pronunciation learning obstinacy;Vocabulary teaching should make good use of multimedia teaching AIDS to practice on behalf of teaching;Grammar teaching should be interesting and arouse students’ subjective initiative.In view of the problems in current teaching activities,the countermeasures are as follows: pronunciation teaching design should pay attention to reading aloud,and cultivate students’ consciousness of language flow;Vocabulary teaching design should reflect the awareness of morpheme and expand the vocabulary constantly.Grammar teaching design should reflect the communication,close to the reality of students’ life.Chapter five is the conclusion of this paper.This chapter summarizes the research views of this paper,reflects on the shortcomings of this paper,and expresses the prospect of international Chinese online education.
