Abstract/Summary:
As the basic format of verb overlap in modern Chinese,"V了一V"is extremely common in daily life, with unique forms and stylistic properties, diverse syntactic expressions and complex grammatical meanings. In this paper,we take the small triangle of"table-value"as a theoretical guide and conduct a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the"V了一V"format in modern Chinese. The discussion includes the table form, syntactic expressions, grammatical meanings, and the temporal evolution of the"V了一V"format and its related formats.First, this paper describes in detail the morphemic form of the"V up a V"format. The"V up a V"format consists of the original verb overlapping with additional components and other grammatical meanings, and can be regarded as a basic verb overlapping format. The"V了一V"format consists of the constants"了"and"一"and the variable"V".The constant term"了"is a dynamic auxiliary, which functions as"了1"to indicate the completion of the action;the constant term"一"can express"slightly"V"is usually filled by monosyllabic verbs, and has the semantic characteristics of autonomous control and short duration.Secondly, the syntactic performance of the"V up a V"format is analyzed.A total of1893 valid corpora in CCL corpus and BCC corpus are analyzed one by one,and it is found that"V了一V"format is mostly found in compound sentences, and it is used as the predicate of shorter clauses, can be used as the gerund, and can be used as the definite article with the addition of"的/地".The"V had a V"format can be used as a small clause. The"V had a V"format can be preceded by a gerund and followed by an object. In addition, the format is mostly found in fictional genres.According to Feng Shengli’s stylistic pattern diagram and stylistic configuration theory,it is found that the format has negative values of formality and elegance, and thus the"V up a V"format has the attribute of informal style in general. Then, this paper explores the grammatical meaning of the"V up a V"format. We classify the grammatical meanings of verb overlap into three categories:short, verbal, and modal, and analyze that the"V了一V"format mainly has the grammatical meanings of continuous, small, and relaxed. It is worth noting that not all verb overlapping forms have the sense of try, and"V had a V"itself shows the existing action, but to express the sense of try,a small prefix such as"slightly"or the original verb with the sense of"try The"try"sense is added before the prefix"slightly"or the original verb with the"try"sense. Finally, the paper examines the temporal evolution between"V up a V"and its related forms. The verb"V"is borrowed as a verbal measure to complement the verb"V",and the cognate verbal measure usage appears, forming a"V-I-V"verbal overlap.The"V-V"verb overlap is formed by the weakening of the"一"in"V-I-V".With the maturation of the body marker system of"with, had, and over"and the development of the verbal complement structure, the addition of"had"to"V-I-V"formed"V had-I-V The"V"was added to the"V-V"to form the"V-v".The grammaticalization of the"一"in"V了一V"led to the formation of the"V了V"verb overlap.
