| As a common linguistic phenomenon, Verb reduplication in modern Chinese have long attracted the attention of grammarians. Since the 20th century 50s, many scholars began to publish papers to discuss verb repetition, and have achieved substantial results.In this paper, three-dimensional grammar theory as a guide, we selected the representative views of verb repetition,and tried to draw a reasonable conclusion, by a comparative study on views of different researchers about verb repetition.This thesis looked back the research history of verb repetition in modern Chinese firstly. The second, third, fourth, fifth part is the main part of the article, from the point of view of syntax, semantic and pragmatic, we analyzed various of problems of verb repetition ,such as the forms, properties, scope, conditions, meaning, pragmatic function. And draw the following conclusions:Firstly, as the strict morphological changes, verb repetition belongs to formbuilding. The forms of verb repetition, compared with the original style, showed the unique syntax features.Secondly, by analyzing the nature of morpheme used to build words, we summarized the characteristics of internal structure of two-syllable verbs; and analyzed the characteristics of the verbs be able to overlap, from nature, conceptual meaning, connotative meanings; finally, summarized the changes in voice of verbs after be overlapped.Thirdly, the paper has sorted out the various viewpoints on grammatical meaning of verb repetition, and we considered that verb repetition is the method of adjusting the amount of verbal expression, and then we gave a detail description of semantic orientation about verb repetition.Fourthly, in specific language, verb repetition express a variety of extended grammatical meaning, but its usage is constrained by pragmatic conditions.Finally, we gave a brief description about the new trend of the research on verb repetition, and pointed out the defects of this article. |
