A Study Of Verb Reduplication Of Ganyu Dialect

Reduplication is widespread in many languages and dialects of the world.Researching this linguistic phenomenon is undoubtedly meaningful.But for Gan Yu dialect this research is relatively small,so this paper takes the verb reduplication of Gan Yu dialect as the research object.This paper investigates the verbs listed in the glossary of Ganyu Dialect Records and Research on Ganyu Gialect,together with some common verbs in daily life.Field investigation,description and comparison method are used to describe and analyze verb reduplication of Gan Yu dialect.We hope that this study can enrich the research of Ganyu dialect.In this paper,there are four studies on the verb reduplication of Gan Yu dialect.First,we take a broad view of the definition of verb reduplication form,and summarize seven verb reduplication forms in Gan Yu dialect.There are a few forms both in Mandarin and Gan Yu dialect,such as AA,AAB,ABAB,AABB.Although AAA and AAAA have appeared in people’s spoken language,Gan Yu dialect has its own characteristics.There are a few examples of AXAX in Mandarin,but in Gan Yu dialect it is more abundant and frequently used.Then we use Three-Plane Theory to analyze verb reduplication of Gan Yu dialect’s syntactic function,grammatical meaning,textual and pragmatic function.Gan Yu dialect’s diversity of verb reduplication form brings the diversification of syntactic function.Gan Yu dialect’s seven kinds of verb reduplication forms can be used as predicate,which is consistent with Mandarin.But the ability of each form to make other sentence components varies.And the ability to combine with other components is more powerful than Mandarin.The verb reduplication of Ganyu dialect has the grammatical meaning of“quantity”.It can show the quantity of time,action and subjective notion.There is description or mitigation function in the pragmatic function.In the textual function,it can serve as a topic or scene setting.And“你看看/瞅瞅”,“你说说”,“你想想/省省”have the function of marking discourse.
