A Practice Report On Manifestation Of Syntactic Logic System In English-chinese Translation Of Handbook On Marine Environment Protection From The Perspective Of Semantic Manifestation

As a functional style,English for science and technology(EST)is characterized by implicit logical connections through lexical,syntactic and textual means other than logical connectives.In English-Chinese translation,it is very important for translation quality to grasp the semantic-logical relationship accurately.Appropriate semantic logic manifestation can avoid such problems as vague content and inaccurate information in the translation.In most cases,English-Chinese translation of EST needs to get rid of the original text and adopt the strategy of explicit logical system to express original information accurately and clearly.From the perspective of semantic manifestation,this paper chooses Handbook on Marine Environment Protection as the translation practical object.Aiming at the difficulties and problems found in the translation of syntactic logic system in the initial stage of translation,different explicit translation strategies of the logical system are adopted as solutions respectively,and the effectiveness of the relevant explicit translation strategies is analyzed and discussed.By summarizing all kinds of syntactic logic relations implied in the selected text,the translation difficulties and problems in the initial translation stage are specifically defined as follows: defaults in semantic logical markers,unclear semantic logical relations and differences in logical word order structure.In view of the defaults in semantic logical markers,adopting semantic word-adding,grammatical word-adding and logical-connection manifesting as solutions;in view of the unclear semantic logical relations,adopting phrase-division manifesting,clause-division manifesting and theme-rhyme adjusting as solutions;in view of the differences in logical word order structure,adopting space-time transformation,causal inversion and focus shifting manifesting as solutions.The translation practice and case analysis show that the strategy of syntactic logic system visualization is of great guiding significance and application value to thetranslation of scientific English texts,and the strategy of syntactic logic system manifestation has effect on the translation of EST.
