The global novel COVID-19 pandemic and its development have profoundly changed the world environment and the politics, economy, society, work and life of human society, and also brought a major impact on the career development of individuals.Whether it is the epidemic itself or the social control, economic downturn and changes in work and life caused by the epidemic, ordinary people, college students and employees of organizations are often directly or indirectly exposed to various negative career shock events. In this context, what negative career shock events exist, what influence these negative career shock events bring to us,and what factors can effectively help or protect individuals to face the impact of these negative career shock events are the research focus of this paper.Study 1 is the compilation of the scale of career shock events under the background of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.Through the interview data of 32 employees in different industries and different positions, the negative career shock events directly or indirectly experienced by each employee during the COVID-19 pandemic are summarized by using the case interview method, and the scale of career shock events under the background of the novel COVID-19 pandemic is preliminarily prepared, with a total of 16 items. The scale has high reliability and validity.Study 2 is the study on the influence and moderating factors of negative career shock events under the background of COVID-19.According to the theory of resource conservation, four outcome variables including job insecurity, career anxiety, job satisfaction and perceived employability and two moderating variables including Organizational support for development and career resilience are introduced to establish a research model.Through the analysis of 320 sample data of employees in different industries and different positions, the results showed that the negative career impact events experienced by individuals under the background of the epidemic were significantly positively correlated with job anxiety and job insecurity, and significantly negatively correlated with job satisfaction and employability.Organizational support for development has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between negative career shock events and career anxiety and job insecurity, and a positive moderating effect on job satisfaction and perceived employability.Career resilience had no significant moderating effect on the effects of negative career shock events on career anxiety, job insecurity, job satisfaction and perceived employability. Finally,The paper concludes with summarizing the above findings and implications for management practice.
