With our national strength and power of discourse growing stronger,Chinese culture “going global” has become an important direction of cultural development. If audiovisual products are an important part of "Culture Going Global",documentaries which reflect real life and has certain publicity attributes, have become an integral part that cannot be ignored on and off the screen.Meanwhile, documentaries enjoy a wide range of subjects, rich philosophies and varied narrative styles, all of which makes it uniquely different. Therefore,it’s necessary to carry out translation research on documentaries. The documentary The Stories of Tianjin Concessions is a cultural and historical documentary, centering on the old stories happened in the Five Avenues Concession and surrounding areas in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, shows the development and changes of Tianjin in the past century. There are nine episodes in this series of documentaries, which interpret Five Avenues,a unique historic district, from the perspectives of politics, history, commerce, fashion, architecture, culture, and education in chronological order, revealing the formation and development of Tianjin culture. As a historical documentary,it does not adopt a negative accusation method but describes it through exquisite details from the dual perspectives of history and reality.Such a documentary with broad vision, rich content and excellent production has high research value in the field of translation, whereas Eco-translatology as an indigenous translation theory which has drew more and more attention in recent years may bring new ideas to researchers and practitioners.Under the guidance of Eco-translatology,this author selects The Legacy,A City of Business and The Modern Life these three episodes of the documentary to conduct translation practice. And then the author categorizes the texts into commentary, dialogues, and captions, summarizing strategies while trying to illustrate how ecological perspective takes effect in the whole process.Through this study the author hopes to provide a probable theoretical pathway for domestic translation study, thus make a little contribution to the quality improvement of domestic documentaries translation and Chinese culture “going global”.
