A Study Of Translation Of Craftsmanship(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Eco-Translatology

In the context of the current "One Belt One Road" initiative in China, the cultural exchange is in the ascendant. Documentaries for overseas exchange are an effective method to enhance cultural communications with the outside world. The documentary Craftsmanship is a series of works presented by Science and Education Channel of CCTV. Craftsmanship is grounded on cultural heritage and records traditional techniques, so its role in China’s cultural exchange is obvious. The key to a successful foreign exchange with translated domestic documentaries lies in a good understanding of both the source and the target languages. In the process, exact subtitle translation is essential for the delivery of documents’contents and connotations. The author selects Filigree and Rhinoceros Leather Lacquerware (hereinafter referred to as Craftsmanship (excerpts)) and translates the Chinese subtitles into English.In recent years, Eco-translatology has made remarkable progress in theories and practices at home and abroad. It brings translation activities into "translational eco-environment" to explain from a wider perspective, which stresses a translator-oriented practice focusing upon the conversion principle of "three dimensional transformations". Based on the Eco-translatology theory, the author takes Craftsmanship (excerpts) as the research text and analyzes the translation process in depth from macroscopic and microcosmic perspectives. The "degree of holistic adaptation and selection" of translation works is improved by taking restrictions of subtitle translation’s characteristics and influences of Chinese and English thinking differences into fully consideration and adopting "multi-dimensional transformations" translation principle. Special sentences and words included in Craftsmanship (excerpts) are translated by applying "three-dimensional transformations"method flexibly in order to balance the practical value and aesthetic value of translation works. The author hopes to make contributions to the combination of theory and practice in documentary subtitle translation field by analyzing and studying the translation process and text of Craftsmanship (excerpts) carefully and systematically.
