Research On Language Signs In Public Places Of Wuhan

In recent years,the study of language landscape in public space has become a hot topic.Language landscape is an important part of urban environment,which reflects and constructs social language environment.All kinds of language landscapes in public space reflect the cultural connotation of the space,carry the memory of urban culture,and have important cultural functions.After reviewing the literature,we find that there are many studies on language landscape in China,but few systematic studies on Wuhan’s urban language landscape.Therefore,based on previous studies,this paper analyzes it from the perspectives of place semiotics,language policies,SPEAKING communication models and other theories,and designs a questionnaire to investigate.In order to have a relatively systematic study of Wuhan language landscape.The thesis is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction.The introduction part mainly introduces the research object "Wuhan language sign" and its research significance briefly,and analyzes the research theory involved in this paper and the research status of relevant theories at home and abroad.The second chapter is the basic situation and use of Wuhan language signs survey.The research object of "Wuhan language signs" specifically includes the Yellow Crane Tower,Wuhan East Lake Greenway,Hubei Provincial Museum,Jianghan Road and Hankou Railway Station language signs and their basic situation were sorted out,and from the main body of the sign setting,the function and the expression of the sign language were briefly introduced and analyzed.The third chapter is the study of Wuhan language signage from multiple perspectives.This chapter mainly makes a systematic analysis of the language signs in five areas of Wuhan from the perspective of such theories as place semiotics,language policies and SPEAKING communication models.Based on the three sub-systems of place semiotics,this paper analyzes the characteristics of Wuhan language signs in the aspects of code orientation,inscription and placement.From the perspective of language policy,it analyzes the influence of policy on language signs and the current situation of use.Finally,using the SPEAKING communication model,this paper studies the interactive relationship and identity construction between "creator","reader" and "text"of language signs.The fourth chapter is the public evaluation of Wuhan language landscape.Mainly from the rationality of language signs,functional and public preference three aspects of the survey and language sign construction strategy.More than 70%of the people,that the current Wuhan language signs in the number of language expression and other aspects of the setting is reasonable;In the research,the information function and recognition function of language signs were the two most important functions.More than half of the respondents prefer popular,unified standard text and graphic mixed language signs.
