The period of junior middle school is a crucial period for individual development,during which the physical and psychological changes of teenagers have taken place.At the same time,individuals are prone to various psychological problems,among which depression is a common and high incidence of psychological problems among teenagers.Junior high school students depression will cause a variety of internalization and externalization problems,such as depression,sleep disorders,and even lead to suicide and other behaviors.Therefore,based on the diathesis-stress model and the theory of parental acceptance of rejection,this study introduces the core self-evaluation and the meaning of life to explore the influence of parental rejection on junior high school students’ depression and the possible mediating mechanism,and introduces relevant intervention studies on this basis.This research includes two sub-studies.Study 1 used four scales(S-EMBU-C,CDI,CSES,MLQ)to measure the perceived parental rejection,core self-evaluation,the meaning in life,and depression of 715 students in grades 7 and 8 of a junior high school.Study 2 selected 20 students with higher depression scores and lower scores on core self-evaluation and meaning in life based on the results of study 1 and the actual situation of students.The 20 students were randomly divided into experimental group and control group.The control group was a blank control and did not intervene temporarily,while the subjects in the experimental group underwent group counseling for eight times to examine the effectiveness of the group counseling program on depression intervention.Research indicates:(1)Parental rejection of junior high school students was a significant positive predictor of depression level.(2)Core self-evaluation played a partial mediating role between parental rejection and depression level.(3)The meaning in life played a partial mediating role between parental rejection and depression level.(4)Core self-evaluation and the meaning in life play a chain mediating role between parental rejection and depression level.(5)After eight weeks of group counseling,compared with the control group,the core self-evaluation and life meaning scores of the experimental group members increased significantly,and the depression scores decreased significantly.This study revealed the effect of parental rejection on depression and the mediating role of of core self-evaluation and sense of meaning of life in junior high school students.
