| Fear of intimacy refers to an individual’s inhibition of expressing important thoughts and feelings with important others due to anxiety.College students have a strong need for intimacy, which has a strong impact on the development of their early adult relationship.FOI has seriously hindered the establishment and development of college students’ intimate relationship. Therefore,it is necessary to study the influencing factors and mechanisms of college students’ FOI.Based on the parental acceptance-rejection theory, this study explored the relationship between parental rejection and FOI,and further tested the role of rejection sensitivity and core self-evaluation.This study used Fear of Intimacy Scale,FIS、Short-form Egna Minnen Barndoms Uppfostran for Chinese,S-EMBU-C、Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire,RSQ、Core Self-Evaluations Scale,CSES,which collect information on the degree of parental rejection, fear of intimacy, rejection sensitivity and core self-evaluation of 1073 college students, and analyzes the correlation between the four. The following conclusions are drawn:(1)There are significant differences in FOI in gender, whether there is love experience, and whether they are currently in a relationship.FOI in boys is significantly lower than that in girls, and FOI of students with love experience is significantly higher than that of students without love experience. The FOI of students with love experience and students with love relationship is lower than that of students without love relationship(2)College students’ parental rejection(father’s rejection and mother’s rejection)has a positive correlation with FOI,a positive correlation with rejection sensitivity, and a negative correlation with core self-evaluation;college students’ rejection sensitivity and FOI have a positive correlation. There is a positive correlation and a negative correlation with core self-evaluation;college students’ intimacy fear has a negative correlation with core self-evaluation.(3)Rejection sensitivity plays a partial mediating role between parental rejection and intimacy fear.Parental rejection can directly and positively predict intimacy fear, and it can also indirectly affect intimacy fear through rejection sensitivity.(4)Core self-evaluation plays a moderating role between parental rejection and intimacy fear, rejection sensitivity and intimacy fear.Fear levels were still basically lower than those with low core self-evaluation,but high core self-evaluation enhanced the influence of parental rejection on intimacy fear and rejection sensitivity on intimacy fear.Starting from the parental acceptance-rejection theory, this study proves the positive relationship between parental rejection and intimacy fear, verifies the mediating effect of rejection sensitivity and the moderating effect of core self-evaluation between the two,and provides a reference for improving intimacy fear..In the future, college students can try to improve the core self-evaluation to deal with the negative impact of parental rejection. |
