A Report On The E-C Translation Of "Curcumin,the Active Substance Of Turmeric:Its Effects On Health And Ways To Improve Its Bio-availability"(Excerpts)

With the development and utilization of curcumin,scientists at home and abroad have begun to study its impact on health and tried to improve its bio-availability.Taken from a biotechnology report on Wiley Online Library,the source text is named“Curcumin,the Active Substance of Turkmenistan: Its Effects on Health and Ways to Improve its Bio-availability”.The translator selects the first three chapters of this report,covering the content relevant to the history of curcumin,curcumin itself and its biological properties.This translation report consists of four parts.The first part introduces the background of the selects materials for this translation task.Compared with scientists in foreign countries,those of China have only made a limited contribution to the development of curcumin,while overseas scientists have made great efforts and in-depth analysis of it.Therefore,the translator takes the report of curcumin as the source text for translation project.The second part summarizes the translation process,which consists of three sections,namely the preparation before translation,the operation in translation and the work after translation.The before translating part includes reading parallel texts,selecting translation tools and making a glossary.The during translating part includes understanding the source text and processing the expression of the translation work.The after translating part includes translation polishing and self-reflection.In the third part,according to the principles and methods of translation,the translator makes case studies of the difficulties encountered in translation from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax and text.In terms of vocabulary,the translator discusses the translation of terms and abbreviations;at the syntactic level,the translator studies passive sentences and attributive clauses;at the textual level,the translator pays attention to the coherence and cohesion of the whole texts.The fourth part summarizes the translation project from two aspects.On the one hand,the translator gives a full conclusion of the main difficulties and enlightenment encountered in this translation project.On the other hand,the translator looks forward to his own future planning.Through this translation report,the translator learns about the emerging bio-pharmaceuticals at home and abroad.At the same time,he aims to provide some references for the translation of biotechnological topics through this translation project,with another aim to promote the further development of curcumin application in China.
